Conference USA Commissioner Britton Banowsky announced today the league's partnership with the Miami Beach Bowl played at Marlins Park (photo) in Miami beginning in 2014.

The game will be owned and administered by the American Athletic Conference, which will hire a full-time operations staff that will be based in Marlins Park. Television and title sponsorship agreements will be announced at a later date. Conference USA is slotted to face a team from the American in 2014 and 2015.

"Conference USA is thrilled to field a team in the inaugural Miami Beach Bowl," Banowsky said. "We appreciate the opportunity to give our student-athletes and fans yet another tremendous destination."

"We are proud to be able to stage this game at Marlins Park - the site of the original Orange Bowl, where some of the greatest players and coaches in college and professional football history have performed," said American Athletic Conference Senior Associate Commissioner Nick Carparelli. "We have received great support from the Miami and South Florida communities and that ongoing partnership will make this game successful."

"We are very pleased to host the Miami Beach Bowl at Marlins Park," said Marlins President David Samson. "Bringing postseason football back to the site of the Orange Bowl should bring a smile to the faces of college football fans throughout South Florida. The history of college football in Miami is replete with fond memories of great players making historic plays on these hallowed grounds. Marlins Park is a perfect venue for exciting college football, and we look forward to many memorable matchups in the years to come."

Marlins Park opened in 2012 and serves as the home of Major League Baseball's Miami Marlins. The state-of-the-art facility will seat 34,000 for football and has 50 luxury suites, a retractable roof, climate controlled temperatures and a pristine natural grass playing surface.

I know these are the kind of usual platitudes that you throw out there during a press conference but someone explain to me how this

is a perfect venue for football. Or even adequate? Because it looks like the exact opposite.

I understand they played baseball at Pro Player/Sun Life but that was baseball fit into a football stadium whereas this is football somehow awkwardly fit into a baseball stadium.

I know, seldom works well, Boca Bowl in FAU FOOTBALL Stadium is so much better and will look so much better on TV!

Looking at the picture I can't see how it is going to work.   There is/ was a bowl game out in California that is played in a baseball stadium and the teams share the same sideline, very strang.

I mean, I get it… Miami is trying to do everything it can to utilize the facility and waylay critics who thought $600+M was waaay too much money for the taxpayers to invest in a baseball stadium here. And the fact that the Marlins have the second worst attendance in MLB as of 2013 only strengthens the critics' argument.

If you're Miami, what do you do? Gotta generate more revenue. So you bring in a college football game to get some more use out of it. Same thing we're doing with lacrosse and soccer at our stadium.

But I'm not sure how the fans are going to react to the weird setup.

Think of the disappointment when people think they're going to play football on Miami Beach and they end up in Little Havana…you're a long way from Tulsa toto!

Yuck! Are the cheerleaders for both teams going going to be on the same sidelines? The bands together?
Are both team's fans going to sit together?

I can't wait till FAU has the financial opportunity to complete the two corners in the stadium.
