FAU 7, Cincinnati 6 (13 innings)

FAU won their season opener as they got three runs in the botttom of the ninth to tie up the game at 6-6. FAU blew numerous chances to win in extra innings before finally breaking through on a Jordan Hafer Sacrafice fly in the 13th inning to win 7-6. FAU freshman reliever Mickey Storey was the hero of the game with 4 2/3 hitless relief striking out six to get a well deserved win!!
Same two teams play Saturday at 2pm-Lets hope its a little easier for FAU then-I dont know if my heart can take many more 4 hours plus thrillers like this! :)

It seems that FAU teams.. whether it be Baseball or Basketball, love long thrillers where you can't sit down.. however, at least it went the right way.. ;)

Actually, it seems like middle relief was almost the downfall again. Sound familiar? That's what killed us last season. Hopefully it was just opening night jitters.

I agree wholeheartedly that Storey was the story last night and we will see him soon as a starter. He has great velocity and a wicked curve ball and I predict the combination of his pick off move and Silversmiths arm will keep runners close to 1st base. Hafer, who started off FAU's scoring with a 2RBI single and who also came up three times with bases loaded, finally perservered by coming through with the sac fly to finally end our misery (between the cold weather and the dreadful miscues by the Owls). I'll chalk the Bluewaves errors up to first game jitters and again predict that we'll not see a repeat performance of the mistakes or the lack of coming through in the clutch by a number of players who were reliable performers on last years team. The first game is always a good one to put under your belt, and although it was good to see the guys fight back, hopefully they will show us they can put one away early as well. GO OWLS
