Owls Complete Sweep With 13-9 Win Over Seawolves

Nick DelGuidice had four hits and four RBI and Travis Ozga added three hits as Florida Atlantic University completed a four-game sweep of America East Conference champion Stony Brook University, winning 13-9 Sunday.

The Seawolves threatened in the first inning and Rob Dyer's two-out single with the bases loaded plated a pair of runs to give SBU a 3-0 lead after one half-inning.

With FAU trailing by three runs in the third, a lead-off walk was issued to Anthony Mesa and RBI hits followed from William Block and Ozga, beginning a three-run inning for the Owls.

FAU freshman lefty Brent Adheen started and was pulled in the top of the fourth with the game even 3-3. Adheen threw 49 pitches, allowing five hits and three runs.

A 66-minute rain delay halted the action in the bottom of the fourth. When play resumed four-straight FAU batters reach base on Stony Brook reliever Nick Tropeano. A two-RBI single from Ozga was followed by RBI hits by Nick DelGuidice and David Wilson - all off Tropeano.

When the fourth inning finally ended, a tie game had been transformed into an 8-3 lead in favor of FAU.  SBU starter Jonathan Kalkau (0-1) would be the pitcher of record for the Seawolves.

Chris Schmitt (2-0) relieved Adheen in the fourth and returned after the delay to work a total of three innings to pick up his second win.

Michael Tansey hit a two-run drive off Alex Pepe, part of a four-hit Stony Brook seventh inning which closed the gap to 9-7. FAU freshman Ahmed Garcia was called upon to get Pepe out of the inning and worked 2 1/3 before closer Hugh Adams appeared in the ninth.

DelGuidice's three-run double in the seventh essentially put the game and the series out of reach for Stony Brook. David Wilson added two hits and two RBI and Nick Criaris drove in two as well for FAU.
