Notes

With four Conference USA series remaining for 2016, Florida Atlantic welcomes the league's top team in Southern Miss this weekend at FAU Baseball Stadium. The Owls are 14-5 there overall and 4-2 in C-USA action while Golden Eagles have marks of 7-5 and 6-3 respectively on the road.

Neither team has lit up the win column as of late, with FAU going 5-5 in their last 10 contests and USM beating that mark narrowly at 6-4. The Owls appeared in as many as six polls just a couple weeks ago but saw that mark decline to just three after going 1-2 against unranked FIU over the weekend.

Florida Atlantic suffered another setback on Tuesday falling 3-1 to UCF after defeating the Knights 5-0 (11) earlier in the month in Orlando. It would seem that another series loss could drop them out of the rankings altogether, so a successful showing this weekend is of utmost importance for both conference seeding and RPI considerations.

USM owns the top team batting average and can send the long ball. They've swatted 46 homers on the year, which is 13th nationally and well ahead of 2nd place C-USA affiliates FAU and FIU who have 22 for the season.

The Owls will look to balance that strength with their league-best 2.73 team ERA. Southern Miss checks in at 4.22 collectively on the hill.

The Golden Eagles reached the 30-win mark for the 15th straight season Tuesday in a 7-2 victory over No. 16 UL-Lafayette and snapped a six-game slide against the Sun Belt foe in the process.

FAU is 218-6 under head coach John McCormack when leading after seven innings and has won 37 in a row when achieving that mark.

Temps continue to gradually rise in Boca Raton, but this weekend looks to remain relatively clear offering just a slight chance of rain on Sunday.

Equal pitching. Should come down to bats. I have a bad feeling about this week end. Our bats seem to be cold. Hope I'm wrong.

The Boys Are Back in Town!

FAU falls behind 3-0 in the top of the first, but kicks into gear thereafter with scores in the 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th, & 7th innings.
