The Owls head out of state for the second weekend in a row to take on South Alabama, while still in search of their first road win (0-4) on the season. Once in place first, Florida Atlantic now finds itself in a bit of a quandary in third, and just ahead of a four team log jam in fourth place - one of which is USA. A series sweep would do wonders to create some space in Belt standings and set the slumping club (L4) back on solid ground.

Last Tuesday the Owls dropped an OOC game to Florida Gulf Coast 9-5 in Boca Raton; a major disappointment for Coach McCormack.

OF Alex Hudak pulls in at the number five spot in hits amongst league batters with 43 while SS Nick DelGuidice's 13 doubles is a conference best. DelGuidice needs just five more to set a new program mark for career two baggers (56).

FAU enters the weekend slightly ahead in team ERA (-.81) and leads the all-time series 8-5.

Owls fall in game one 5-3…FAU took a 3-1 lead into the bottom of the fifth inning before USA tied it up.

FAU ran out of gas offensively thereafter before South Alabama moved ahead with the game's final two runs in the eighth.

On a positive note, the Owls out-hit the Jaguars 11-9 behind Andy Mee's 4-of-5 performance. Alex Hudak was also solid going 3-of-3 with one RBI.

Ryan Garton tossed 6 1/3 innings, striking out 8, while giving up 3 runs on 6 hits.

The losing streak now stands at five games.

Streak over!  FAU takes game two 7-3 over South Alabama to improve to 18-13 overall and 6-5 in SBC play.

The Owls led 3-0 through four complete frames but saw the Jaguars pull to within a run in the sixth. However, they answered immediately thereafter with two runs in the top half of the seventh, and notched a score in the 8th and 9th innings for good measure.

Paul Davis allowed two earned runs on eight hits and struck out five in seven innings of action on the mound for Florida Atlantic.

FAU's Alex Hudak and Nathan Pittman were 2-of-4 from the plate.

USA committed five errors on the afternoon.

Re: Series Thread - FAU vs USA: Apr 08-10, 2011

A six run second inning puts FAU out in front early, as the Owls hold on to win game three and take the series 2-1 over South Alabama. South Alabama used two three run homers to get back into the game, and later closed to a single run in the bottom of the seventh. However that was as close as they would get.

All FAU starters earned a hit on the afternoon, but Colby Gratton (3-of-4) touted the big bat with two bombs that yielded six RBI. Andy Mee (3-of-6) added three RBI.

The Jaguars (15-16, 5-7) used five hurlers in the loss, but were able to squelch yesterday's poor fielding.

R.J. Alvarez (4-2) got the win for FAU and Hugh Adams picked up the save.

Florida Atlantic (19-13, 7-5) returns to Boca Raton to host UCF on Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. before returning to Sun Belt action against Louisiana-Monroe next weekend.
