Talking Baseball with Coach McCormack: HERE

A few comments from Coach McCormack:
From last weekends series against Troy:
"It was huge, to go on the road to Troy and to come out with two of of three is huge.  It was certainly a good weekend for us, we did a lot of good things".

On Sunday's Lost:
"We walked some guys, we didn't make errors, but didn't make the greatest decision with the baseball and we gave them extra outs, but it was a good series"

All the rain that fell during the course of St. Patty's day, might have wash away some of the "Mojo" the Owls had offensively.  As the Owls had a silent night at the plate on Wednesday, a game coach John McCormack termed a very disappointing lost, the Owls will look to find their rhythmic pings of live bats and offensive output, when they face conference rival Arkansas Little-Rock this weekend three game series.

Inside the Trojan's Dugout
Arkansas Little-Rock (12-6)  snapped a four-game losing streak by sweeping a two-game weekday series against Tennessee-Martin.

The Trojans have played all 18 of their game at the comfort of home and will make their first road trip of the season.  Last year, the Trojans left Boca Raton having taken two of three games from the Owls and will look to do the same this weekend.

The UALR pitching staff racked up 12 strikeouts on Wednesday night to lead the Trojans to a 7-5 victory over Tennessee-Martin. Trojan's starter Scott Keffer racked up a career-high eight strikeouts in a no decision during Wednesday outing, holding the Skyhawks to five hits and two runs over 5.0 innings of work.

From the plate, Jr. INF Jason Houston leads the team with a .414 batting average, 29 hits and 16 RBI.

The Trojan's were swept at home by South Alabama in their conference opening series last weekend.

Inside the Owls Dugout

It might have been a tough series for Jr. Nick Delguidice, who saw his nine?game hitting streak snapped during Tuesday’s victory over Rutgers. The shortstop went a combined 0-for-7 in the series against the Scarlet Knights and will look to rebound with a strong outing during this weekend conference series.

The longest hitting streak for the Owls now sits at three games, held by Dan Scheffler who also leads the team with a .370 batting average (as a starters), with 20 hits, 6 doubles, 1 triple, 4 home runs and 19 RBI (team leader).

The Owls have three pitchers ranked in the top 10 in the Sun Belt in strikeouts so far this season.  Ryan Garton holds the 5th spot with 23 strikeouts, Mike Gipson is tied for 6th with 22 and Taylor Everist is tied for 10th with 21.  South Alabama’s J.J. Hanks holds the top spot for strike outs in the Sun-Belt conference with 31 K's.

Tough luck pitcher Taylor Everist earned his first win of the season in Tuesday's victory over Rutgers, despite only pitching two innings.  Everist was eligible for the win because his pitch count was designated before the game.  Everist showed his resiliency after a rough start last Friday in Troy, having worked out some of kinks in his delivery on the previous Sunday, prove the difference in his strong outing on Tuesday against the Scarlet Knight.

Quote of the Day:

Owls Head Coach John McCormack:
“If you win two of three every series, you are going to be conference champs for the most part.  You end up 20-10 and that's pretty good"

:o

Taylor Everist is chased after facing 7 Trojan batters.  Everist got banged with back-to-back doubles, followed by 4 straight singles while giving up 4 runs in the 1st - with only 1 out.

Ryan Garton is now in to limit any further damage  :'(

:D

The Owls found their bats in the 5th.

DelGuidice got things started with a lead-off single and with two outs, the rally got a boost with a RBI single by Mesa, followed with another RBI single by Church as the Owls claw their way back into the game.

After pitching 4 scoreless innings, Garton is chased from the game.  Things got ugly quickly, lead-off batter for the Trojans was hit by a pitch and with 4 singles, as UALR pushes three runs across to answer the Owls rally and extend their lead - 2 outs.
