If they don't give the job to John….I don't even know what to say it's so ridiculous.

Re: You have got to be kidding me...

I don't understand why people get so bent out of shape about this type of thing.  We all love Coach Cooney, but don't take this so personally.  A national coaching search is a good thing, especially when the results on the diamond have been declining for a number of seasons now.  Would a change in leadership really be such a horrible thing??

This is a really good job in college baseball and I'm sure that really qualified candidates are lining up for interviews.  Why wouldn't Angelos and Brogan listen?  I think it would be a detriment to the program if they didn't.

I take the same approach to this as I did for the basketball job.  It would have been really easy to hire Balado(and yes, I know McCormack is WAY more qualified than Balado) and be done with it…but then again there was a coach sitting out there that has 300+ wins and 9 NCAA tourney's under his belt.  Maybe McCormack is the best guy for the job, but is there any real harm in finding out who else is out there?  I don't think so.

I agree with fauowls44 A national coaching search is a good thing.  Why should we just automatically give the job to someone already on the staff when we might be able to lure a "splashy hire" like the basketball team did with Jarvis.  Maybe we wont be able to lure a big name but it doest hurt to try.

I completely agree. Let's get the very best coach we can (which might very likely be McCormack). Baseball has been declining over the past few years and we need to raise funds and increase attendance to be competitive.

Someone mentioned on Ted's blog that it is possible there is a rule that a job has to be posted publicly for a period before it can be offered to anyone. I personally don't know but that does sound reasonable.

I doubt that's the case.  Just observing how coaches appear to be selected in Florida, they know who they want and they go get him or they promote from within.

Re: You have got to be kidding me...

no offense to anyone on here, i think it is funny that the school says that they are going to look for the most qualified candidate for baseball, and now all of a sudden u all are getting upset.

Less than a month and a half ago when some of us started to petition for Balado, we were laughed at…….well isnt it funny how the tables turn?

I agree that our asst. coach should get the spot after 18 years….but i am not nearly as pationate about it as i was for the basketball selection….

Angelos:  please pick someone fast and please pick the most qualified for the spot!
