Re: 11/22 FAU Wishlist

I could be mistaken, but aren't the only games that really matter for our possible Bowl invite are our own games and the SEC games?  Since the Independance Bowl gets the SEC #8 and Papajohns gets the SEC #9, wouldn't all we need to have happen be that we win our last two games and for Auburn and Arkansas to remain ineligibile for a bowl game?

Re: 11/22 FAU Wishlist

But St Pete is Big East & C-USA
Papa Johns is Big East & SEC
Independence is SEC vs Big 12

I am not sure of the ranks taken for each, so you may be right.

Re: 11/22 FAU Wishlist

I think you got it, prolly save me some time.  I'll check ESPN to see if you missed anything but I think that is pretty much it.  Also, generally we want any team from any conference that is currently in limbo (4 or 5 wins and/5 or 6 wins) to lose so that our conference can get more bids.  I'll check that out and add to this thread.

Re: 11/22 FAU Wishlist

At-Large Bowl Bid
Buffalo over Bowling Green
UNC over NC State
Wyoming over Colorado St
California over Stanford
Northwestern over Illinois
Ohio over Akron
Virginia Tech over Duke
San Diego State over UNLV
Idaho over Hawaii

Conference Break Down
ACC - Has 8 or 9 tie-in, currently has 8 eligible.  Desirable conference, root against Clemson, NC State, Duke, and Virginia.

Big 12 - Has 8 tie-ins, 9 with a National Championship team, has 7 eligible.  Root against Colorado.

Big East - Has 6 tie-ins, 5 eligible (6 with Notre Dame).  Desirable conference, root against Louisville and Rutgers despite that at least 1 will become eligible.

Big 10 - Has 7 tie-ins, 8 if they sneak in with an at-large BCS.  Currently has 7 eligible.  Desirable conference, root for Ohio State (gag) and Penn State (sorry MSU) and against Illinois.

C-USA - Has 6 tie-ins, 4 eligible.  Root against Memphis, Marshall, Southern Miss, and UTEP.

MAC - Has 3 definite tie-ins and up to 4, depending on ACC.  Has 5 eligible.  We are in competition with the MAC for bowl scraps.  Root against Bowling Green and Akron, while at the same time hoping that the ACC does not get to 9 bowl eligible.

MWC - Has 4 definite tie-ins and 5 with a BCS birth.  Has 4 currently eligible.  Root for Utah and
against Colorado State and UNLV.

Pac-10 - Has 7 tie-ins and 5 eligible.  Root against Stanford, UCLA, and Arizona State (Arizona State and UCLA play next week so that is a toss-up.  I say root for UCLA in that game since UCLA plays USC last)

SEC - Has 9 tie-ins, 10 with a NC contender, has 8 eligible.  Root against Auburn and Arkansas.

WAC - Has 3 definite tie-ins, up to 5 (depending on MAC and Pac-10).  Has 5 eligible.  We are in competition with the WAC for bowl scraps.  Root against Hawaii.

The Sun Belt
Sun Belt gets it own area of discussion because there are two trains of thought.  The first is "everyone for themselves".  This says that each team should go after a bowl independently and root AGAINST fellow Sun-Belt teams on the cusp.  The other is "All for one and one for all".  This train of thought has at its foundation the idea that if the Sun-Belt is strong it is good for every team.

Since the "everyone for themselves" is pretty simple (root for your teams and against others), let's take a look at "All for one and one for all".

Under this scenario we (as a conference) would like the following to occur

ULL beats Troy and beats MTSU (finishes 7-5, 6-1) - Goes to Independence Bowl, 1st in Belt
Troy loses to ULL, beats ASU (finishes 7-5, 5-2) - Goes to Papa Johns Bowl, 2nd in Belt
FAU beats ASU, beats FIU (finishes 7-5, 5-2) - Goes to St. Pete Bowl, 3rd in Belt
FIU beats ULM and WKU, loses to FAU (finishes 6-6, 4-3) - Goes to New Orleans Bowl, 4th in Belt

That, of course relies on MTSU and ASU cooperating.  ASU could easily replace FAU in this and MTSU could sneak in if they upset ULL.  For this to occur we need C-USA to be an utter failure of a conference this year and so far they have been helping us (except for Tulsa last week)

At-Large Bowls to Keep an Eye on
New Mexico Bowl - If the MWC can't fill it.
Armed Forces Bowl - If MWC can't fill it.
Texas Bowl - If Big 12 can't fill it.
Motor City Bowl - If Big10 sends both Penn State (Rose Bowl) and Ohio State (At-Large) to the BCS.
Eagle Bank Bowl (DC) - Longshot, would require no ACC #9 bid and the MAC pursuing a different bowl.

Correct me if I am wrong, but isn't the Sun Belt Conf winner required to play in NO Bowl ?

I thought so too until it was posted with a link that the sun belt conf winner now has a choice if they get invited to a better bowl. If the independence bowl invites Troy then they can decline the NO Bowl

My two favorite teams are FAU, and who ever is beating FIU!

Re: 11/22 FAU Wishlist

Thanks for the update, I had missed that detail

Maybe this was part of the new multiple bowl tie-in deal that Sun Belt worked out this year……………….certainly has improved options for the teams

I don't really care where Owls play in a bowl………….just want to see them win out and get an invite

Go Owls

Re: 11/22 FAU Wishlist

So no championship…
A lot of games went right for FAU except for FAU itself, obviously more than ever, next week is MUST win for any bowl chances.

To up our bowl chances
Let troy take the SB championship.
Troy over ULL
