Another Pre-Season Watch List for Rusty
Not sure how many lists this makes for him but…
Seven non-AQ QBs make O'Brien watch list
August 3, 2009 5:04 PM
Posted by ESPN.com's Graham Watson
Seven quarterbacks from the nonautomatic qualifying conferences have been named to the Davey O'Brien watch list. The Davey O'Brien Award is awarded annually to the nation's best quarterback. At least one member from each of the five nonautomatic qualifying schools was represented.
BYU's Max Hall, Central Michigan's Dan LeFevour and Florida Atlantic's Rusty Smith are making their second consecutive appearance on the watch list.
A player from the non-AQ schools has not won the trophy since BYU's Ty Detmer won it in 1990 and '91. BYU players have won the award four times. Houston's Andre Ware is the only other player from a current non-AQ school to win.
2009 O'Brien Watch List
Max Hall, BYU, Sr.
Tim Hiller, Western Michigan, Sr.
Colin Kaepernick, Nevada, Jr.
Case Keenum, Houston, Jr.
Dan LeFevour, Central Michigan, Sr.
Kellen Moore, Boise State, So.
Rusty Smith, Florida Atlantic, Sr.

All kidding aside, wonder if they will be able to improve on the 5-7 record from last season…
They will have to do it in conference…the out of conference schedule will likely yield only one win - Toledo…
6-6 is definitely possible (Toledo, ULM, WKU, ULL, MTSU, UNT being the likely wins)…Still not sold on beating us, even with our youth on the defensive side of the ball…but do expect a VERY close game this year…
But if another SBC team ends there, and there is a tie within the league, do they have the "goodwill" points to convince a Bowl Committee?

This is one of the most accurate lists out there! Rusty should be proud that he makes list after list. I truly believe that this will be a year for the books for Rusty–even better than 2007!

Don't they play Rutgers? I've heard rumblings that they could get lucky on that one.
