Athletics to Honor Soldiers at Football Game on Armed Forces Day

The Florida Atlantic University Athletics Department will recognize local military personnel in honor of Armed Force Appreciation and FPU Energy Conservation Day during its football game against Arkansas State University on Saturday, November 14 at 4 p.m. at Lockhart Stadium in Fort Lauderdale. All individuals with military identification will receive admission to the game for $7.

FAU Athletics also will sponsor a holiday gift program to help injured, fallen or homeless veterans in Palm Beach County , and ask football game attendees to donate fruit, hygiene products, beef jerky and cheese for the ShoppingForSoldiersNeeds.org organization at the game.  Fans who bring a donated item will receive $10 off the price of admission to the game.

ShoppingForSoldiersNeeds.org believes that it’s important to “be of service to the ones that have served you.”  The national organization will begin to package gift baskets on December 15 for delivery during the holiday season ranging in price from $20 to $75.  The organization has set up collection stations at supermarkets, companies, stores, schools and American Legion Posts throughout the county.
