Coach’s Comments from Sunday Night 11/21

Injury update:

The secondary has been hit the hardest with a bunch of players in the group dinged up. Safety Ed Alexander, who was carted off the field, appears to be done for the rest of the season, as Schnellenberger said that he was doubtful for this week and will most likely miss the final game as well. Keith Reaser tweaked his ankle in the loss, Brentley Harstad has a nerve problem in his shoulder, and Winfred Strickland is out right now with a chance to come back this weekend.

“I don’t know how many of them will actually be out,” Coach said of the situation.

Although the Owls lost to Texas on Saturday, Schnellenberger thinks the team still has some positives to take away from the game.

“Even though we’re very disappointed that we didn’t play better than we did, we still profited from the game itself and we will be stronger as the result of it,” he said.

FAU is in its final stretch of the season with two games remaining and a shot at bowl eligibility on the line. Despite this week’s loss to Texas, Schnellenberger still feels the team is focused on the goal.

“This is what we have been waiting for, to get into this situation where we can play our final two conference games and see where we end up. It would be magnificent if we could get those four out of the last five wins in a row and it would be better if we could qualify for bowl competition,” he said. “This is the most important part of the season, and everyone is really looking forward to getting on with the game up there with Middle Tennessee.”
