Day Four of Pre-season Camp...

The tempo was raised today during day four of the Owl's pre-season camp.

Uncharacteristically, the first drill the team worked through today was special teams; an area that will see new faces following the departure of DiIvory Edgecomb to graduation and Willie Floyd to an injury suffered prior to camp.

Defensive backs also worked against the receivers with Jeff Van Camp, David Kooi and Graham Wilbert providing the passes.

Incoming freshman, Chris Jackson was praised for his reads and cuts and received several reps as he began working into the college system. Fellow freshman David Huntt (below, #77) was also praised for his efforts in the offensive versus defensive line station.

The team will return to the practice field tommorow, in full pads, at 3:30PM.  Three-a-days begin Friday at 8:00AM.

Anybody get a good look at the the D during these four days of drills? Any stand outs? Do they look like they made any progress from the spring size and strength wise?

Drills are just that, drills…we will know alot more come Saturday, when the team hits the Oxley field for it's first scrimmage…although controlled, it should tell us something - as the offense is the more mature unit hands down…a good thing, that no one has touched on, is that having the offense be markedly ahead will allow a solid growth opportunity in practice - especially game day prep - for the defense…for the last couple of years it has been pretty even, minus emotional outpouring efforts, or coaches stepping with play calls to help even the results.

Of course this is provided that the players are focused and give their all…also, granted that the D will be facing a pro-style attack which will not resemble the vast majority of offenses to reckon with this year.

Nonethless, still good learning ground.

Would be shocked to see a defensive win; unless the play calls are altered to aid that.
