DT Trevon Coley Changes Number; Incoming Player Numbers
ERROR: A link was posted here (img) but it appears to be a broken link.
While the offseason drags on, there is some news, that is if you consider number changes actual news.
Two FAU football players appear to have changed their numbers from last season, and the incoming signing class has found some digits to put their names to.
Most notably sophomore defensive tackle Trevon Coley has switched from #48 to #11 – the old number Tennessee Titans quarterback Rusty Smith once sported at FAU.
His counterpart along the line, redshirt sophomore tackle Bradin Bryant has also transitioned from #95 to #2, meaning the 260-pound Bryant will have a single-digit stretching over his belly.
It's become a growing trend in college football for large defensive lineman to use small jersey numbers (see here, here and here) – and FAU will join the party.
Junior college transfer quarterback Jaquez Johnson will wear #12 while fellow transfer wide receiver Lucky Whitehead will dawn the coveted #1. Freshman quarterback Greg Hankerson will start his career with #6 and athlete DJ Juste will wear #3.
Listed below is the incoming class's numbers:
#1 Lucky Whitehead - WR
#3 DJ Juste - QB
#6 Greg Hankerson - QB
#6 Reggie Brown - CB
#8 Marc Mauro - S
#12 Jaquez Johnson - QB
#12 Tyler Henderson - S
#19 Trey Hendrickson - DE
#20 Marcus Clark - DB
#22 Robert Miller - DB
#24 Lester Thomas - DB
#25 Jay Warren - RB
#28 Ronnie Scott - CB
#43 Robert Relf - LB
#44 Jeremy Faulk - DT
#48 Andrew Curtis - LB
#51 Khilyni Kennedy - DE
#53 Jakobi Smith - OL
#57 Jace Banfell - OL
#70 Austin Bland - OL
#75 Braden Lyons - OL
#81 Kalib Woods - WR
#87 Dustin Bowens - TE
#96 Lance Burlingame - DT
#99 Derek Butcher - DL

by the way speaking of Whitehead, how is he recovering from his broken collarbone? does anyone know?
I saw him riding a bike last week without a sling.

We're pretty loaded at WR.
Yes but I thought he would be our new return specialist… he's pretty good at it.

For sure, we NEED a dangerous threat returning the kicks. I don't recall EVER having one!

Andrew, you described DJ as an athlete above, was that intentional? Are the coaches projecting him somewhere other than QB in the future?
He told me earlier this summer that he will start as a quarterback. He could however play wide receiver down the line. As Local Owl pointed out, only time will tell. Juste could also see the field quicker at wide receiver.
