Extra Time-off
The 10th-ranked Golden Bears (2-0) ended up with a mini-vacation when their Sept. 16 game at Southern Mississippi was postponed to Dec. 4 by Hurricane Ivan. Last weekend was a scheduled week off, giving Cal a 20-day break between a 41-14 win over New Mexico State and Saturday's game at Oregon State.

FAU back on the field

BOCA RATON ? It was bad enough for Florida Atlantic when Hurricane Jeanne forced the postponement last week of its home opener against Illinois State.
Now the Owls are hoping the momentum built also wasn't put on hold.
FAU's scheduled open date this week comes at a bad time for a team that was 3-0 with all three victories against Division I-A programs, but FAU coach Howard Schnellenberger is hoping his team can keep its intensity level high.
"I think the kids will go out and revisit training camp," Schnellenberger said. "We'll try to get our heads back real quick and then use Friday and Saturday to get a two-day jump on Texas State."
FAU returned to practice Wednesday in preparation for its game against the Bobcats (2-1) on Oct. 9 and went through its first workout since last Thursday. FAU, which has yet to play a home game this season, won't have its home opener until Oct. 23 against Louisiana-Monroe.
"It's best that they know they are still playing football," Schnellenberger said.
Players were happy to get back to the field after the five-day hiatus.
"We just have to use this as an advantage right now," said junior running back Daveon Barron. "It's always good to have the recovery period."
