Newcomers:
None.

On the Way:
Trey Hendrickson

-Stats are from last season.

Overview: The Owls return almost all of their production from last season at the defensive end position and are led by senior Cory Henry. A three-year starter, Henry (pictured above) has recorded 8.5 career sacks and has been a key component to the team’s pass rush over the years. Along with Henry, three other upperclassmen are expected to anchor the outside ends on the line. Redshirt seniors Martin Wright and Andrew Stryffeler return after starting multiple games last season, while junior Joe Henry is entering his junior year. Gone from last years squad is David Baptiste, who was lost to graduation, but the Owl’s depth shouldn’t be concerned. Wright is on track to gain a fifth year of eligibility as he is working on his degree and he will provide much needed leadership to the unit. The end started five games last season as the weak-side end, and was featured primarily as a pass rusher. Stryffeler started three games last season, and is the one of the biggest ends on the roster at six-foot-five 260 pounds. Henry has been part of the Owl’s defensive line rotation for three years and has started one career game. Robinson Eugene and Karl James are two lineman who saw limited snaps last season.

Player on the Spot: - Cory Henry - Henry is entering his fourth spring camp with the program. Having played both defensive end and linebacker, Henry is one of the more athletic individuals on the defense. After recording a team-high five sacks his freshman season, the lineman has managed a total of just 3.5 the last two years. Henry needs a strong offseason to gain momentum.

Remember the Name: - Shalom Ogbonda - A native of England, Ogbonda redshirted last season in order to further develop his body and work on his technique. Having skipped a grade in middle school, Ogbonda is young for a redshirt freshman, but he still has the potential to be a starter and contributor down the line.

Key Stat: - 6- For the past six years, FAU has failed to tally more than 20 sacks in a single season. The Owls have four viable pass rushers on the roster, meaning they could finally achieve that number.

Forecast: Henry and Wright will gave FAU two dynamic pass rushers at defensive end next fall. With the team having struggled in the rush defense category last season, the Owls will need to shift their focus towards stopping the run. Developing players such as Stryffeler and Eugene will be essential to the success of the defense. Look for a four to five player rotation to form behind Henry, who should be counted on to have a sound year.

Re: FAU Football Spring Preview: Defensive Ends

Dare I say it, Corey Henry is another Tavious Polo in the making. Breakout freshman year and then… I hope that's largely the result of a bad team built around him for those last two years, would love to see him with 8-10 sacks this year and a combine invite

Putting him into that 3-4 did not help him.
