FAU Marching Owls

Just a quick update about your 2009 Marching Owls:

ERROR: A link was posted here (img) but it appears to be a broken link.

The Marching Owls have recently kicked off a new campaign titled "Operation:100".  The goal is to have 100+ members in the Marching Owls this Fall. Information regarding joining the Owls can be found on www.fau.edu/music/ens_ub_marching_band.php.  Or by contacting Dr. Sean Murray, Director of the FAU Marching Owls, at [email protected].

Just a reminder FAU, PBCC, and BCC students can all enroll in the Marching Owls and receive scholarship.

You have scholarships available? If so, couldn't the band director attend local high schools and recruit people to FAU on a band scholarship? That way people come in and give four full years to the band.

Re: FAU Marching Owls

Good luck. It would be great to see a big marching band at the games. Keep us updated with the progress!

This is great initiative…thanks for sharing!

So that we get the word out a little more, am moving to the Football Forum, as you are a major part of game day experience for that sport :)

GL to the Band!

I would love to see it grow, and as F_O said its such a huge part of Football season.

Hopefully with some scholarships available it will be easier to recruit and grow.

Keep up the good work Marching Owls.

I have come here to chew bubble gum and kick @$$ and I'm out of bubble gum.

Re: FAU Marching Owls

The scholarship in the past has been $500.  It's not like athletics where they give out full rides. However, students admitted to the Department of Music can get full rides depending on what they play and how well they play it.

On another note, the Parlament Sound (formerly known as the basketball pep band) won't be headed to Hot Springs for the Sun Belt Tourny due to budget cuts. This is pretty disapponting because the Belt started a new tradition last year where all the schools in the tourny play in the Sun Belt Pep Band Spectacular. Could be worse: rumors are going around that FIU may shut down their band program because of the budget.

Also Coach Mac asked the band to play at a few games this year, including the Belt opener and Miami.

Awesome…

Although, last season some folks thought the band was not historically a "baseball" thing…

Whatever adds to the game day experience shoud be welcomed!

Re: FAU Marching Owls

Glad to see Coach Mac is embracing this tradition. The band, whether or not a "pastime" of baseball, adds a lot to the atmosphere I would imagine.

This is awesome!
Digging the flyer and the OPERATION 100 name!
That sounds pretty cool. Good job and tell the director that we all are behind the band, we support you with full force.
How many members are there now?
I assume the band can grow with the school.

Good job!
