Fall camp is just one day away. Players report on Wednesday and hit the practice fields on Thursday. There will be a lot of new faces on hand, including a strong group of incoming freshmen. Here's which freshmen we think are most likely to see the field this season.
Marquese Dudley-Gordon DB - The talk of summer workouts has been Dudley-Gordon (pictured) and his athletic ability. FAU is deepest in the defensive backfield, but MDG should make a case to see time in the rotation after turning down offers from Pittsburgh and Arkansas. Think back to Cre’von LeBlanc’s freshman season when he saw extensive special teams action and was often featured as a fifth or sixth defensive back.
Reginald Bain OL - Three years from now, we might look back and claim that Bain was the most important signee in the 2014 recruiting class. He enrolled a semester early, and left spring camp penciled in as the team’s starting left tackle. He’s raw, but his accelerated development has allowed for coaches to shuffle some guys around on the line. Bain could become the first true freshman lineman to start a season opener for FAU since the program moved to the FBS level.
Landon Scheer K - Someone will have to kick the ball, and it most likely will be Scheer. With Mitch Anderson gone, and Sean Kelly out of the picture, FAU’s special teams will need a complete makeover this season. Scheer (who was ranked as high as the No. 1 kicking prospect in the nation) figures to ease the transition. But keep in mind, scholarship kickers don’t always pan out. Ask Florida.
Joe Gold OL - Injuries depleted the offensive line last season, but the unit somehow managed to hold together. Gold is likley to redshirt, but he could also work his way into the two-deep. Initial word is that he’s impressed during summer workouts, we’ll see when the pads go on.
Kris Harris or Matt Solt LB - One of these guys will simply have to play this season. It’s just a numbers thing. Linebacker is thin, and both Harris and Solt will be thrown into the thick of competition once practice starts. Will they sink or swim? That’s an answer Charlie Partridge and Roc Bellantioni want. Keep an eye on walk-on Jarrod Ward.

Is Scheer expected to do both punter and placer kicker duties?Posted On: Jul 29th 2014, 2:55 PM #332870
Dual-threat guys are a dying breed. I don't believe Scheer will punt, but he might.
