DENTON ? Daniel Meager will start Saturday's opener at LSU. The redshirt freshman was locked in a battle with freshman Matt Phillips throughout fall practice. Coach Darrell Dickey said that Phillips, and possibly redshirt freshman Kellen Haynes, would also see playing time against the Tigers.

Dickey said he chose Meager because he performed slightly better in practice than Phillips or Haynes, and he has the most experience in UNT's system.

Briefly …
Redshirt freshman Isaac Thomas, who missed practice time because of dehydration, might not play this week. … Junior tight end Beau Davidson has recovered from a shoulder injury and will play against LSU. … The women's basketball team released its 2005-06 schedule, which includes 14 home games, the second-most in the program's history.
