Game Analysis
FAMU-Florida Atlantic matchup
FAMU RUN VS. FAU RUN DEFENSE
THE TEAMS: FAMU rushes for 126.8 yards per game; FAU allows 105.5 yards rushing per game.
KEY PLAYERS: RB Rashard Pompey (92 carries, 437 yards, 5 TDs), QB Ben Dougherty (81 carries, 195 yards, 3 TDs); LB Shomari Earls (45 tackles), LB Chris Laskowski (44 tackles, 9 tackles for loss).
ANALYSIS: Like most teams this season, FAU will focus on shutting down FAMU's running game, forcing the Rattlers to beat them through the air. If the passing game can spread out FAU's defense, Pompey could get some opportunities. EDGE: FAU
FAMU PASS VS. FAU PASS DEFENSE
THE TEAMS: FAMU passes for 279.1 yards per game; FAU allows 249.6 yards passing per game.
KEY PLAYERS: QB Ben Dougherty (152 of 251 passing, 1,604 yards, 12 TDs, 7 INTs), WR Ronnie Thomas (45 catches, 378 yards, 4 TDs), WR Roosevelt Kiser (43 catches, 557 yards, 6 TDs), WR Rod Miller (18 catches, 276 yards); LB Shamari Earls (3 sacks), LB Chris Laskowski (3 sacks).
ANALYSIS: FAU opened the season with an overtime victory against Hawaii, so the Owls shouldn't be too worried about FAMU's Gulf Coast Offense. Dougherty must be able to handle the pressure, avoid turnovers and connect with his receivers downfield. EDGE: FAU
FAU RUN VS. FAMU RUN DEFENSE
THE TEAMS: FAU averages 133 yards per game; FAMU allows 231 yards per game.
KEY PLAYERS: RB Doug Parker (125 carries, 579 yards, 5 TDs), RB Aaron Sanchez (22 carries, 110 yards, 1 TD); DE Jeff Green (52 tackles).
ANALYSIS: Parker is carrying the load for FAU and will be used heavily today. FAMU's defense can't allow FAU to eat up the clock with long drives, especially if the Rattlers are trailing. EDGE: FAU
FAU PASS vs. FAMU PASS DEFENSE
THE TEAMS: FAU averages 105 yards per game; FAMU allows 197.1 yards per game.
KEY PLAYERS: QB Jared Allen (105 for 172, 1,488 yards, 6 TDs, 6 INTs), TE Anthony Crissinger-Hill (40 catches, 583 yards, 3 TDs), WR Roosevelt Bynes (17 catches, 407 yards, 2 TDs); SS Sammy Doughty (65 tackles, 2 INTs).
ANALYSIS: Tight ends have given FAMU fits, so they have to be concerned with Crissinger-Hill. FAMU's secondary struggled last week against Savannah State ? and FAU has a much better passing attack. EDGE: FAU
SPECIAL TEAMS
KEY PLAYERS: FAMU ? P Damon Miller (42.2 avg.), KR William Judson (19.5 avg.)
ANALYSIS: Miller is solid, and Judson is still learning. Sophomore Paul Johnson has struggled with field goals and injured his leg last week. Freshman Wesley Taylor will get another shot at handling the kicking duties. EDGE: EVEN
OVERALL
INJURY REPORT: FAMU - PK Paul Johnson (leg), OL Garth McIntosh (ankle) and WR Craig Swain (back) are doubtful. FAU - LB Tyrone Higgins (ankle) is out.
WHAT TO EXPECT: FAU has been solid all season. Look for the Owls to come out and try to and quickly take control, with Parker running right down the heart of FAMU's run defense. If the Rattlers cut down on their turnovers and mental errors, they have a chance to be competitive because they are at home, but a victory may be asking too much.
