Great site for booking hotel rooms-- hotel mega-searchengine

I always use http://www.sidestep.com/ when booking rooms. You can search by star ratings, distance, name, etc.

It searches many of the search engines, thus is a mega-search.

I usually find a price on sidestep and then try to lowball that price on Priceline.com (in the French Quarter or on Canal Street).

Go to the Cajun board or New Orleans Privateer board and ask where the good "local" or "hole in the wall" places are in N'Awlins. That's where you'll find the best food.

There is a pretty good deal in the Quarter at a Cooking School (I cannot remember the name). You go there for about 3 hours and learn how to cook in the morning, and then eat your meal at lunch. It is worth the price.

I have been to New Orleans many, many times, so if you have any questions feel free to ask me as well.

Have fun, Owls. I am a jealous man !! We're always the "groom's best man" and never the "groom" at MT, seems like.

I hope the FAU students (fraternity) that I met in Ft. Lauderdale are able to make it. New Orleans will never be the same after that group parties on Bourbon.

Thanks Kajun I'm sure that info will be helpful to a lot of people. I looked on www.kayak.com

they too search expedia and all those and found some of the hotels are dirt cheap in N.O. Thanks for your support and hopefully we'll do the 'Belt proud

My two favorite teams are FAU, and who ever is beating FIU!

I usually try for the best price (in the quarter) of a 4-star of 5-star. But if it's in the quarter a 3-star will suffice. We were going to stay (until we lost to Troy last year) at the Astor for about $89 per night.

Best bets: Sheraton, J.W. Marriott and Marriott - all on Canal Street within a very short walk to the heart of Bourbon Street. They start at $89 per night.

I posted on another thread but don't rule out the Omni Royal Orleans in the quarter or Country Inn & Suites on Magazine.  Check Tripadvisor.com and compare ratings from people who have actually stayed at the hotels.  I've stayed at all three and they all have their perks (Sheraton being that it is the official hotel for the team and a decent rate for the event) but star ratings are not always accurate (Astor Crowne is a shining example  :( )

If you want to "do it up right" my favorite hotel of all-time (other than Opryland Hotel in Nashville) is the Royal Sonesta on Bourbon.

My feelings…….. you'll have much more fun if a lot of you book at the same hotel.

We did this in Ft. Lauderdale this past year (we had about 60 at a Lauderdale by the Sea hotel) and it made the loss to you guys a lot easier to handle. Didn't hurt that we were on the beach. Being that so many of us were there for a few days, it may have been my favorite roadtrip ever (up there with a trip to Tucson against 'Zona several years ago).
