How a town should support the local team...

City of Boca,

PAY ATTENTION. This is how its done.

News Taffy | Jonesboro, AR

CODE RED PROCLAMATION

Whereas, the Arkansas State Red Wolves Football team will take on the University of Louisiana-Monroe on Thursday November 8; and
Whereas, the game will be nationally televised on ESPN-U; and
Whereas, the game represents a key Sun Belt Conference match up against one of the top teams in the conference; and
Whereas, Louisiana-Monroe is trying to remain undefeated in the state of Arkansas; and
Whereas, ASU has had four consecutive home crowds of more than 20-thousand; and
Whereas, Arkansas State leads the conference in home-game attendance; and
Whereas, a significant threat exists against Arkansas State continuing to lead the conference in attendance and winning the Sun Belt Conference Football Championship…

I, Harold Perrin, Mayor of the City of Jonesboro hereby issue a Code Red and place the entire City on high alert. I encourage everyone within the sound of my voice and as far as this message can be spread to ready themselves against this threat.

Be prepared to attend the ballgame November 8th at 6 PM at Liberty Bank Stadium…
Come early for tailgating and the Jonesboro Chamber of Commerce Chili Cook-off…
Fill the stadium with more than 30-thousand fans…
Wear your Red A-State gear…
Showcase Jonesboro and the state of Arkansas on a national stage…
And help the Red Wolves take another step toward winning a Sun Belt Conference Championship and a Bowl game appearance for the second year in a row

I have come here to chew bubble gum and kick @$$ and I'm out of bubble gum.

Great to see for a Sunbelt team but…

True,

But would it hurt for the Mayor of Boca to make a proclomation like this before 1 importnant home game a year?

We haven't gotten to that point yet. Even vs. FIU that game means nothing. When we have a winning record and we're playing in an important conference game then I'd say you're right. Until that day comes, I don't expect them to show much support for a big football game.

My two favorite teams are FAU, and who ever is beating FIU!

I wouldn't expect the mayor of Boca to do this, but I do expect it from our AD, MJ, Pelini, Ken lavicka, Dieter, Student government and us to start spreading the word.
Wear red that day!

Re: How a town should support the local team...

Im sure this initiative came down from Terry who is the new AD at stAte.

Pat Chun has talked about marketing and getting the community involved. This is a very novel and unique way of trying to motivate the city to become involved. What did it cost stAte and the Mayors office? Almost nothing I would imagine. Email blast from the City and it gets printed in the paper. Cheap, easy, and possibly effective advertising for the game.

Now being that FAU and FIU have a combined 4 wins, I know there isnt a lot of excitement or incentive to the locals to come out for this. This game IS on ESPNU, which is National Television. I think EVERY effort should be taken to make sure we have as many butts in the seats as possible.

Why not ask the Mayor to do this and then give Free tickets to City of Boca employees? The LAST thing we want is for our stadium to look as empty as FIU's did for thier game.

+1. I like that idea, but I am getting a little frustrated at Mr. Chun who was supposed to come out with this marketing strategy he has been saying they been working on. As fans we would like to know what the plan is. The only downside about the game being on Friday the 16th, it runs up against the end of the high school football season.

IMHO... Saturday games only. Unless they pay nicely. If they pay, I understand. FYI, we need money.

This.  We have a week and a half to get the city and local population to get interested in this game.  Lets give the endzone seats, both students and fans those rally towels they did not give out for the previous game.  Have the school send out some student ambassadors to drop off sign up sheets for free tickets to the game at the local government offices.  Not the main government building but the parks and recs dept., the maintenance dept., the mechanics, and police, and fire, and lifeguards.  We're not going to sell out the game necessarily, so towards the end of next week they can start giving out the tickets that we're not selling.  The stadium will be fully staffed no matter what so we may as well use the tickets instead of sitting on them.

FAU - We got Bowls!
