I hate those "Greatest of all time" quotes!

Watching the Hawaii game the other day and the saying came up again. Ever week someone is the greatest to ever play certain positions. This week was Chad Owens the all everything guy for Hawaii. "Mighty Mouse" is a good player but let's be real. The announcer said "there's not a LB in the history of the game who can cover Chad". EXCUSE me for thinking back. Shomari Earls did an OK job as I can recall! He got some yards on the RAC(run after catch) like most of the receivers did that game. But Earls and Skinner(nickle back/LB) did pretty good on the under route. We can argue that Skinner is a true CB. But he played mostly under and Earls had the over slot in some formation.

I hate the reference as well - Chad Owen is a good ball player, but so are many others.

First of all, he is a WR. Why would a linebacker be covering him anyway? That quote makes sense. LB's shouldn't be able to cover WR's. He is a great player. I think he is one of the best to watch in terms of explosiveness. He will make it at the next level although size will play against him.

On a similar note, I have watched 4 or 5 Hawaii games this year and as recently as Michigan State the announcers were saying that he would be a late round pick or free agent. Three weeks later they are talking mid-round. Given the lack of depth at the receiver position this year he might just sneak up to the late second or early third.

Maybe I'm just biased as to the way Earls protected the under route when we played him.

Draft status? I think he can make it on the next level as a slot receiver. The kid can make you miss and he's not intimidated at all.
I'll guess that he'll make a 2nd round pick as a utility specialist.
