Interesting Marketing Idea...

FIU is offering buy one season ticket now (2008) and get 2007 for free…good idea…this is to drum up attendance for the new stadium…

Our staff should consider something like this as well in my opinion for 2008 (Hoping we can play in our stadium by 2009 if its pushed up!)

Per the Miami Herald:

"The Golden Panthers are expected to play their home games at the Orange Bowl this season after construction of the new FIU Stadium begins this summer.

FIU is offering a promotion for the opening of its stadium in 2008. When fans buy 2008 season tickets, they get the 2007 season free. Call 305-348-4263 for details."

We might be playing in a small on campus stadium for the final home game this year.

I thought the temp stadium was now projected for 2008 and not 2007. Who knows. Maybe we will hear something soon

I heard some mention of possibly trying to get on campus by 07 also. I not sure if it was at the Banquet or one day at the Ox.

Question from Greg
Hello Craig,
I have been hearing rumors that a football stadium will be created around the track for the 2008 season. I think this is a great idea! We all know that we must get the football games on campus and with Lockhart being torn down soon, we don't have many good options. A temporary stadium around the new track seems like a good compromise until a permanent home is built. My question is, how seriously is this being looked at and given the limited space around the track, could there be enough seating placed around it to meet NCAA requirements? I hope it is something that can happen, because I really believe that once we get the games in Boca, this program will take off, at least in terms of student and community support.

Thanks and GO OWLS!

Response from Athletics Director Craig Angelos
Greg
The temporary football stadium is being considered even for the 2007 year. We have talked extensively with the developers of our permanent stadium about helping us finance the temporary stadium around the track. It is true that there is limited space on the east side. However we had bleacher companies come out and they said that they could put 15,000-18,000 seats around the track without infringing on the track itself. It would be a tight fit in some of the areas but certainly has a lot of room on the west side. In addition to the bleachers though, we have to import a lot of items such as a temporary press boxes, scoreboards, bathrooms, concessions, etc. It is a pretty comprehensive list although there are companies that do this on a regular basis such as those at professional tennis venues like the Key Biscayne or professional golf tournaments. It is possible to do but we are just figuring out how much it would cost and if we can lump these costs onto the total construction costs of the stadium. Nevertheless, I totally agree that it would be best for the support of students and the community to get on campus as soon as possible.

Thanks for the support,
Craig
