Jaquez Johnson Named 2013 C-USA Football Newcomer of the Year

Post

Sophomore QB Jaquez Johnson has garnered the 2013 C-USA Football Newcomer of the Year award. In one season, Johnson captured FAU's career record for rushing touchdowns by a quarterback with 10 and he also tossed another 10 TDs.

Johnson led the squad in rushing five times and finished with a team-high 772 rushing yards, the most by any C-USA quarterback. He completed 58.2 percent of his passes for 1,876 yards and placed fourth in the league with an average of 239.8 yards per game of total offense.

After joining the squad in January, he vied for a starting spot among five quarterbacks. By the end of preseason camp, he was named the starting quarterback but was part of a three-man rotation.

Johnson won the starting battle and ended the regular-season nationally ranked in 14 categories. He is tied at No. 85 nationally and No. 8 among quarterbacks in average rushing yards per game.

With new Coaching leadership apparantly on the way, we need YOUR leadership to help the team through any and all changes going into next season.

Perfect example of not needing a 4 or 5 star kid...but instead putting in correct system and developing.

Teambeer is the most knowledgeable FAU sports fan I know, way smarter than me.

Wonder what he was ranked before his injury that forced him to JUCO ball. Pretty decent first year for the Owls, two more to look forward to!
