Finally!!! Hopefully FAU makes the right decision. Playing a school like UM would be a great gameday experience, just like the FAU/USF game!

We almost beat the # 5 team in the nation I'd love to see what we could do when healthy against UM

My two favorite teams are FAU, and who ever is beating FIU!

There is something about palying an in-state games that heighten the game day experience, like you mentioned the FAU/USF game had an awesome atmosphere and a UM/FAU would be great just because of HOWARD.  A bit different feel then the UM/FIU game for sure.

Owls, 'Canes close to deal for game in 2009

Miami and Florida Atlantic are close to finalizing a football game for the 2009 season, sources at both schools said Friday.

A senior administrator at Miami said the university is very interested in playing FAU at Dolphin Stadium.

"We really want to play them," the source said. "The ball is in their court." FAU Athletic Director Craig Angelos confirmed he has discussed the possibility of setting up a game with the Hurricanes, who would be the home team. FAU would receive a guaranteed sum to play.

"We have been talking and there seems to be an opportunity to play a game if we can all agree on the terms," Angelos said. "For us it's got to work out financially and fit in our scheduling models." On FAU's athletic Web Site, fans can ask coach Howard Schnellenberger questions and Schnellenberger indicated a game with Miami could be in the future.

"We are in conversations with them. It now appears we will have a game in the next five years," Schnellenberger wrote.

When asked about the possibility of a game with UM by a reporter, Schnellenberger didn't confirm a game had been finalized, but said FAU is interested.

"We hope to (play UM)," Schnellenberger said. "There is a lot more interest in then playing us and we are in dialogue with them." The game would seem to be a natural for both schools.

Schnellenberger is credited for resurrecting the Miami program in the late 1970s and early 1980s coached Miami to the 1983 national championship, the first title for the Hurricanes.

Schnellenberger was 41-16 from 1979-84 and left after winning the national title to coach a Miami team in the USFL. However, the deal fell through and Schnellenberger went Louisville instead.

FAU, which began football in 2001, will play Florida for the first time this season but has never played Miami or Florida State.

Miami has not shown reluctancy to play other in-state teams. The Hurricanes have already played one game of a five-game series with USF, is scheduled to play Central Florida soon and has played Florida International the past two years.

Miami's schedule is nearly full through 2012 except for the opening in 2009, all but guaranteeing it would be a one-game deal.

In 2009 Miami's non-conference schedule includes Oklahoma, USF and UCF.

FAU 's non-conference schedule for 2009 includes Nebraska and UAB, but the Owls are looking for another opponent, Angelos said.

Personally, I would much rather play UM in 2009. Our program will be much further along. Besides for that, the following year we will have our stadium (which will be great for that years recruiting). Also keep in mind some of the players we will still have on the team:  ;D

11 Smith, Rusty RS SO 6-5 212 QB Jacksonville, FL (Sandalwood)

5 Polo, Tavious RS FR 5-10 160 DB Fort Lauderdale, FL (South Plantation)

16 Gent, Cortez RS SO 6-2 185 WR Chiefland, FL (Chiefland)

1 Holley, Avery SO 6-0 150 WR Pompano Beach, FL (Ely)

46 Rose, William RS SO 6-1 227 RB Lutz, FL (Gaither)

35 Cross, Curtis FR 5-10 170 CB Belle Glade, FL (Glades Central)

28 Floyd, Willie SO 5-9 172 RB Hollywood, FL (Chaminade-Madonna)

80 Jean, Lestar FR 6-3 195 WR Miami, FL (Miami Norland)

30 Rolle, Avionne FR 5-9 180 RB Miami, FL (Miami Central)

MARK MY WORDS…………..WE WILL WIN THIS GAME
