i know on this board we have discussed stuff like this before, but since it's the offseason and i miss FAU football season a lot right now, i figure a discussion about this would be a good way to pass time between now and next season.

all of the band members who are on this board, a few ideas/suggestions/questions

1) has the band ever entertained the idea of putting our fight song and chants on a website for easy access for Owls fans?  like USF's Herd of Thunder band has done here:

2) i noticed an amazing tradition at notre dame a couple years ago on TV. after every game (win or lose), the team walks over to the band section and listens to the school's alma mater together. coaches, players, cheerleaders, etc. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g7MsPN0FoRU the more i looked for this, i noticed virtually every school does this.

i know you guys play our alma mater after every game, however the players and coaches (and, in turn, the fans) basically ignore it and walk right past it.  has the band director ever considered asking coach schnellenberger to make his players walk over the band and listen to the alma mater out of respect to the program, the university and the band?  i think it would be a cool tradition and the fans would catch on, stay in their seats and listen to the alma mater, as well.

3)  how is that goal of reaching 100? what were the numbers this year?

just thoughts/ideas/questions.

As far as the team coming and stand in front of the band/ student section for the Alma mater goes we have ask our band director a bunch about this. He has brought it up a the athletics meetings but for some reason the team doesn't do it. Maybe the coaches want them in the locker room right away. I don't know.

This year we were about 80-85 including drumline, colorguard, and the twirlers.

The fight song is on the FAU page on iTunes. It is a old recording not from the marching band. Not sure what the plans are for the recordings of our school songs.

Almost every fan, (Myself included) leaves after the final whistle.

We want to beat traffic or whatever. Not sure how to go about changing this attitude but It MIGHT be easier once the OCS gets built.

I hope the band continues to grow! They were great this year and louder then ever.

Talk to FIU about not having a band. Its in almost EVERY one of thier complaints about this year.

Florida Atlantic Owls Official Athletic Site - Traditions

I really wish that they would do handouts with the fight song on it at the entrances.

I know its in the program but not everyone buys them.

A simple xerox copy with the fight song on it would at least get everyone in the stadium a copy of it.

Perhaps some of the Frats/Soroities/Prowlers could position themselves at each gate and hand them out before the game.

see i don't care about fans knowing the WORDS to the fight song. the average florida fan does not know the WORDS to their fight song. i drove to orlando for the miami hurricanes vs. wisconsin badgers champs sports bowl. both groups of fans stood and clapped to their fight song. i think it is hard to dedicate an entire fan base to knowing the WORDS to their school's fight song.

i would, however, like to see the whole stadium shout "LET'S GO OWLS" in that chant/song the band plays (i don't know the name of the song right now - it gets faster and faster every stanza). or in the other song, the whole stadium shout "F…. A…. U… FIGHT FIGHT FIGHT!"

however, the average FAU fan doesn't know the shout those appropriate sayings because it's not well-known yet

I too like the idea of having the players go over to the band and sng the school almamata. Most major programs do it and it shows true school pride.
