We will be attending the game. We are staying in Lauderdale by the Sea. Does anyone have any suggestions of places to eat and things to see while we are in the area? Thanks in advance for your help.

Just the weekend (fly in Friday, fly out Monday). We have a mixed group. Several of us are staying the in same hotel. Some married folk, some single guys, but we will probably head out as a group.

On the same topic, I'll be there with a few of my fraternity brothers. Two of whom are underage are all the bars there 21 and up? Or are there any decent bars that are 18+ where they can at least get in? Furthermore, I went to one of the best gentleman's clubs I've ever been to in West Palm a few years back, any good ones in Fort Lauderdale? Thanks.

We had a good time at Shooters on the east side of the Intracoastal Waterway. Also, check out the night spots along the beach (A1A).

Lauderdale has a nice Riverwalk dining and entertainment section downtown on Las Olas. Don't miss the beaches.

There's the nice big Bass Pro Shops just west of I-95 just north of Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport, and the adjacent International Game Fishing Hall of Fame (http://www.sun-sentinel.com/news/local/broward/sfl-lifishnbjul26,0,4109626.story?coll=sofla_news_local_broward_promo).

You probably went to Rachel's in West Palm.

Also, check out the Mai - Kai Restaurant & Polynesian Show on U.S. 1 in Fort Lauderdale.

If you scuba dive, fish or golf, you're in heaven.

Check out a Marlins game. Are the Dolphins playing that night?

There are several casinos, led by the Seminole Hard Rock, off the turpike north of Fort Lauderdale. It has a great bar and entertainment section and lots of concerts.

Check out Dave & Busters off I-95. Tons of games.

Here's a listing of night spots:

There's plenty more. Have fun.

I'd recommend going down to the Las Olas area for dinner one night, it's in downtown Ft. Lauderdale and you're hotel can give you directions. It's a quaint street with restaurants and boutiques that's very "Ft. Lauderdale", a nice place to get dinner and have a stroll. I'd recommend Mangos (it's been there for a long time) or Samba Room (latin inspired, also very good) both of these places are kind of pricey but not ridiculous (think Cheesecake Factory) or head to the Quarterdeck at Las Olas and A1A for good sports bar food and atmosphere. All of the restaurants are good in Beach Place as well, which overlooks the ocean on A1A and there's a good variety. Max's is a nice, florida inspired restaruant and then there's a Hooters there as well. Not to mention some night life at Beach Place, a dueling piano bar and a Sloppy Joes with live music.

For the Fraternity Guys: What Fraternity?
You're gonna run into a problem with the underage guys, you'll typically get ID'd everywhere and I'm unaware of any clubs or bars that are 18+ after 10 PM. Some of the smaller places might not be IDing at the door but it's unlikely. If FAU has a chapter of your fraternity, send the underage guys to a house party that weekend.
There are two areas in Lauderdale to go out, one is Beach Place (see above, an all in one complex on the ocean, usually not too crazy unless it's spring break) and there's Riverfront (IMO the better of the two) with some great bars (Dicey Rileys, Tarpon Bend, Coyote Ugly and more) and some good clubs (Automatic Slims is always packed, they play 80s rock music so it's not like a rave in there). Then there's the Hard Rock Casino out west, it's got a huge night life complex with a great mix of everything as well and it's now the busiest place on a Saturday night in Broward County. It's far away and if you aren't there by 9 PM it will literally take you an hour to park but it's a sight to be seen on a saturday night.

Bmarkey is probably right on with Rachels-it's top notch. I've never been to Pure Platinum but I hear it's like a Rachels. There are some good clubs in the lauderdale area as well, Scarlettes is always busy late night, it's open until 8 AM i think. I just noticed (from the highway)that Crazy Horse Too has reopened in what looks like a freaking warehouse, that place has to be 60,000 square feet which will compete with Tootsies Cabaret out by Dolphin Stadium which is also a warehouse now (from what I've heard!).

Have a good time!

Oh and for going out, everyone doesn't usually get out to the bars until about 11PM. Everything closes at 4 AM at Riverfront and even later for some clubs. And there is a very lax open container policy in Riverfront too, so you'll see people walking around the streets with their beers.

Since you are at Lauderdale by the Sea be sure to hop a ride on the Water Taxi. I think its $11 all day and it will take you to several waterfront eateries and bars and you get to see all of the filthy rich mansions on the water including Wayne Huizinga's compound. It will drop you off at both riverfront and beach place.

Also, we have a new cheap road trolley that does a downtown and las olas loop and you can pick it up near the hotel. Its only like 50 cents or a dollar.

If you want to do a really nice dinner one night check out River House in the "Historic District" (not that we have much history that hasn't been replaced by condos). From there you can walk right over to Riverfront which has a couple bars (the new Briny pub is nice) or 2nd street if you want more action.

If you like live music (blues/rock) and really good New Orleans style food (awesome Po Boys, Gumbo and Gator) you should try to swing by Alligator Alley on Saturday night after the game. The David Shelley band will be there and they never dissappoint! Just be warned that they rarely go on before 10:30. AA is on the way back from the stadium to your hotel if you take Powerline road just head east on Commerical.

Hey, Owls fans!

Been a while since I posted here. I too am making the trip to Fort Lauderdale this weekend. And like GoMTBlue, I'm also staying at Lauderdale Beach by the Sea. I'll be leaving Friday night after our high school game checking in on Saturday (it's a 12-13 hour drive) and leaving on Monday morning.

I'm hoping to take in the game, some layin' out in the sun, a dip in the ocean, and maybe a night hangin' with some ladies havin' drinks on me.

Looking forward to the opportunity to visit southern Florida for the first time. Been to Orlando on more than once occasion.
