Post Game Thoughts - FAU vs Troy
One of the key to the game was eliminating big play on defense and there was a total of 5, three of those produced 21 points :o
all but one should never have happen, poor tackling the culprit on two of the long pass plays, the other Small just made a bad play and let the receiver get behind him, this one I am not as upset about, it happens, the others >:(
Troy's RB Cattouse, is a monster, how did he continue to make yardage with nothing there, poor tackling or him being a powerful beast, could be a combination of both, yet he did not hurt us to much and for that matter, beat us.
The defense played pretty good overall (not great), except for giving up those three long TD passes, they still did enough to give us a chance to win, even after those plays.
To start the second half, very poor special teams play could have help put this game away, yet the defense responded. Special teams in combinations with an offense being just that offensive at the begging of the half, help give Troy three points and we were very fortunate it was not more. Yes, I blame the offense for three points, to many three and outs with possession deep in our own territory, in addition to special teams play, helping give Troy good field position and the three in & outs did not help change that. It is important to be able to sustain drives regardless if any points are scored, but the three in and outs are killers.
I don't even know if you can put it all on play calling, we need to get more then one or two yards on first down - period. There was lack of execution and blown assignments from a unit that has been the strength of the offense all season - what happen to this unit all of a sudden, has all the juggling in recent games taken a toll in the cohesiveness of the line. Hard to make adjustment when there is lack consistency from the players in execution.
Must give Troy's defense some credit, for keeping our offense from establishing any kind of rhythm all night.
Overall, this was a winnable game, that slipped away, this time the miscues that cost us the game, came from a unit that has been preforming rather well as of late and still there was a chance for us to turn the game in our favor and the offense did not do enough to bail the defense out, the chances where there and we did leave some points on the field.
The good, Leroy is becoming more accurate and consistent finding the uprights
The Bad, Poor tackling that was the determining factor that turned this game in Troy's favor.
The Ugly, blown chance at a 6-6 record for the season.
Reflecting on how the season started and where we are now as a team, we are in a very good position as a team, stay with me for a second, Yes it is disappointing to lose the way we have the last two weeks, but the positive is that we have shown that we can play with the best in our conference and both games came down to a handful of plays from miscues that can be corrected.
We have much to look forward to next season, the players have gotten stronger and faster and will do so again next year. It will be important how the player chose the finish the season, let's not forget there are still two games to be played, if we take care of business, we can still have a chance at a respectable record, 5-7 and finish 4-3 in conference play - both improvements from last years, small steps, but steps in the right directions.

I agree that it would have been interesting how things may have played out the past two weeks, but hey that is why we play the game and the players are the ones that have to play through these mistakes - it will make us a better football team, part of the on going grwoing pains unfortunately.

Bytor, I agree the big 3 but that one turnover at the end was a back breaker because it was our last shot. But even with that would we have gone for two to win or OT.
yeah, its basically the timing of it…last successful drive snuffed out…it was like the air got let out of that big owl we should be flying over the stadium…lol
i actually did think about what it would have been like to have that bad boy hovering over while the game was one…
