Post Game Thoughts - FAU vs UNT

Still trying to figure out and get a grip of this Owls team this season. The defense has shown that they can be brutally stingy one week and yet look like swiss cheese the next. The odor emitting last night was not only pungent, but rather repulsive for a good part of the night. I feel for UNT, how can one player, Robertson, rush for 201 yards and the team still finds a way to lose. If it wasn't for the play of Bartel, Acevedo and Pinnick this could have easily been a long flight back to Boca Raton for the Owls', who would have had their wings clipped by an team that has struggled on offense. Sounds rather familar don't it, it's not like the Owls' have been burnning down barns with their effecient offenssive prowess.

When two struggling offensive lock horns, the Defense that makes more plays usually ends up winning the game and this certainly was the case last night. What I don't get is, we have a nack for making a poor struggling offensive look like a million bucks. The first team offense was effecient enough that the Mean Green didn't even have to bring in the reserves, the Green Unit, which probably was a good thing.

What does count is that the defense made great plays when they had to - turnovers always comeback and bite your in the rear. The defense deserves credit and earn a W for the team, kind of a reward for those others games that they played great and that just didn't go our way as far as the W is concerned.

The offense, just can't find any consistent groove or maintain a drive to save themselves. The offense continues to be terrible at the most critical times of the game when we need them to move the ball and move those chains, especially at the end of the game where we needed them to at least pick-up one (two would have been nice) first down to run the clock, we go 3 in and out (including a critical mistake by Rusty's intentional grounding penalty) giving UNT good field position with way too much time on the clock. At times I don't get the play calling, stay with what is working, don't over coach, don't try to do to much to out fox the opponents.

The offense did manage to move the ball, yet found ways to stall drives. The receivers are not helping the QB's at all, they don't play aggressive enough and quit on their routes, they need to be more creative when the plays break down. A receiver should never be standing still. I still have a hard time with Rusty delivery, he takes way to much time with his throwing motion, yet once he is set, he does have a great arm, but for a pocket passer, he doesn't take time to set his feet to throw the ball, he always throws off balance or off his back foot????? This offense still needs to find itself - at least Pierre rebounded from last week and had himself a solid game, without him, this game could have gone south in a hurry.

We need to play better then this next week if we want the Shula Trophie back.

SO we stunk up the field and still won, one more win and we beat our rival and can say we were only one win away from being bowl eligible to our recruits. Not too bad compared to all those pre-season predicitions.

I agree with you both . Inconsistency, injuries, and quick decision making are killing us - I will blame this on the youngness of our team - both players and coaching.

But… we didn't give up and pulled out a win. They do have heart and they will only get better. We have many good looking red shirts for next year. It is time for the hatchlings to fly the nest and start working a little harder for the food - your team is going to need it for the long flight to New Orleans next year.

Good news - Jenkins is ok :). Special Teams looked good this week. Kris Bartels deserves SBC defensive player of the week.

Bad news - Paris is out .. again … with a broken leg (at least reported by the news who also said last week that Housler was out with a hurt foot and obviously his shoulder had the ice on it ). He is having as much luck as Wilds :(

Offense - receivers better find a way to make their QB look good - don't expect the ball to stick to your gut - got to jump, dive, fly, to grab that ball - sorry - you're gonna have to.

O-line - you gotta open those holes - especially in the Red Zone.

Defense - again, tackling the guy who has the ball would help.

Best news - " Flag day: Senior fullback Aaron Sanchez, who will graduate in December despite a learning disability, will carry the college flag in FAU's graduation ceremonies next month. " Kudos to Aaron and his proud family !!!!

This weeks grade : B - we won !

Let's go out next week with a HUGE win (at least by what we got beat by last week but Coach S. does have more class than that ) and show the world - the FAU hatchlings have grown up !!! What a great way for our Seniors to be honored as they have experienced a world of college football VERY FEW players have ever experienced.

GO OWLS !!!

Exactly…from what i remember no significant media members had us winning more than 2 - 3 games…i couldnt believe it…

of course this was all based on AGE of the team, etc…be interesting to see what the "predict" next season…i see us being .500 or better next year - this without any significant recruits signing….which shouldnt be the case now with the stadium…we should do very well on recruiting day…we're after some very nice players…

All I care about is for the players to avenge that treadful loss last year and to finish with a winning record in conference play.
