Practice Report 03-28-09: It's Oklahoma Drill time...

Yes, the good ol' Oklahoma Drill…….

This ultra-physical practice drill is a fan favorite that pits offense vs. defense in a battle of strength and will.

Each team is made up of three groups:

- Centers vs. Guards

- Tackles vs. Tight Ends

- Wide Recievers vs. Defensive Backs

To begin the drill, the quarterback hands of to a running back who attempts to run through a "hole" that is created by two markers, usually tackling dummies that have been placed 3-5 yards apart from each other.

The objective of this drill is for the offensive player to block his defensive counterpart before he can make the tackle on the oncoming running back. If the defensive player is able to shed his blocker and stop the running back from making it between the markers, a score is recorded for the defense. If he doesn't, the score goes to the offense.

This drill is an excellent opportunity for either side of the ball to gain bragging rights.

As defensive tackle Jovan Haye said following the drills, "everyone's trying to outdo each other before we start getting to the dog days. It's real good competition."

For today, we are concentrating on the backs…….

Must admit, i got politely "chewed out" for being in a "forbidden" area while snapping these first few…so we will have to "work around" that in the future…….

The wind was also a "bit much" at times...so please excuse that...

Anyway, without further delay...

First up, Willie Floyd:

Alfred Morris continues to impress...in this drill, he has a nice bounce/spin-off to get to the goal line...

Last up for today is one of X-Stinson's drills i was able to capture in the "forbidden zone".......

In this case he has some help from his "line", but shows some good speed down the line...

My bet is that he will be in the mix soon enough come fall...he is hard to bring down...could see him going with the jumbo, or power back sets as a mainstay...

Interesting that Paul Muse is now playing on the D-line.  He's another big body out there.  Hopefully he can make an impact.
