Pre-season Camp Day 13...Bon Voyage' to Three-a-days...
The first practice began with punt coverage. Senior Alex Pecorella and newcomers Damian Fortner and Nexon Dorvilus were each credited with a punt block. The team then moved into individual drills to close out the early practice.
The Owls returned to the field for the day's second session while working on team drills, 7-on-7, goal line stands and field goals.
The third and final practice of the day practice started with punt coverage, and moved into the lines squaring off in blitz drills. Work was also done on first and 10 and long yardage situations. Practice ended with overtime drills.
FAU will host "Fanfest" tommorow beginning at 2 p.m. on the FAU Boca Raton campus Tom Oxley Practice Fields. Parking and the event are free and open to the public.
Last weekend's action ended with unexpected results as the defense came away with a 35-24 victory. But scrimmages are quite often scripted, and carefully designed to achieve evaluation goals for the coaches. The defense is a main focal point heading into the 2009 season.
Thus, one would expect that tommorow's event will be an opportunity for the offense:
“Saturday’s scrimmage will be the most important (scrimmage) that we have had in the longest of time,” said Howard Schnellenberger, FAU’s head coach. “The defense is young and trying hard. They have made improvements and will need to prove that it is solidified. The offense is talented and experienced.”
Accordingly, Fans could see the coaching staff's play calling change over that of last weekend; while releasing the offense more.
Also of note:
The Huskers, which returned running back Roy Helu to practice today, will conclude their pre-season camp schedule on Sunday.
