Re: rankings compiled

Good site…thanks for sharing!

But how does Connecticut, a team that has barely been 1A for long, jump over Luisville??

Ill tell you how:

A bad coaching hire.

$100 bucks Nord's son wishes he would have stayed home now…….

Re: rankings compiled

Those rankings are pretty consistent as to what I have been thinking for the Sunbelt.  The first two teams and last two teams are a given, and the middle of the pack (ULM, ULL, and MT) is one big wildcard.  I bet one of those teams will ruin someone's season, hopefully not ours.

I have a bad feeling that if we don't win the SBC title, ULM will do it.

I just dont see ULM winning the belt this year, and the main reason is b/c of their OL. They lost 3 four year starters and have to break in whoever they replace them with. To me, that translates into a few losses in-conferece for them. If anyone wins besides FAU than it will be Troy b/c they are so solid on both sides of the line, regardless of having to break in a new starter at QB… that line will give him time so he wont make too many mistakes.

Re: rankings compiled

Troy's line is very good on both sides from what Ive been reading.

I think our D might be surprsing to all the sunbelt teams this year though. We werent much of a threat to push thru and pressure the QB due to lossing Pinnick and Savidge. Were in MUCH better shape now, and I think they are underestimating our D. LAst year the O got it done.

This year the O and The D will be formidable.

Barring Injuries the D is much improved.

I have come here to chew bubble gum and kick @$$ and I'm out of bubble gum.

Re: rankings compiled

I see North Texas as one of those Middle of the pack team this year, they will have the offensive to give teams trouble, yet they will be fighting the consistency factor on offense - they just don't have the experience yet.  Defense is another story.

The Louisiana's are always good to win a game they shouldn't - you never which team will show-up, the one capable of or the one that lays an egg.

Middle might surprise some, yet they are missing some key pieces to help them make a push of any kind for the race.

FIU, just need to get better - they have the weapons, but lack experience across the board and need to develop depth which does become a factor.

The team that will struggle this year is ASU.

The teams with the veteran leaders will fair better overall.

If you consider that FIU had players drafted in the last two years but has only won one game out of 24… you could therefore make the argument that it's more about the coaching than it is about the quality of the players.

I know you guys aren't big on Jay Warman but he wrote a pretty blunt (and kinda funny) piece on the last Shula Bowl:

HALFTIME: FAU 35, FIU 3

There are way more FAU fans here than FIU fans. That is something to be proud of Owl Country. And FAU fans have had plenty to cheer about in the first half.

On their first opportunity to score, the Golden Panthers showed why they are the worst team in the Football Bowl Subdivision. After racking up first downs on their first four plays of the drive to get all the way to the FAU 5-yard line, the FIU offense sputtered. Linebackers Frantz Joseph and Cergile Sincere combined to stop the Panthers on third-and-goal and then instead of kicking the short field goal, FIU coach Mario Cristobal elected to try a fake-field goal pass that fell incomplete and kept FIU off the board.

Rusty Smith then led the Owls from their own 4-yard line to the FIU 35 when he completed a fourth down pass to Cortez Gent and kept the drive alive. Three plays later DiIvory Edgecombe rushed for a 9-yard TD and the Owls led 14-0 courtesy of the 12-play, 96-yard drive.

Conshario Johnson made a nifty, sprawling catch for FAU's first score. Smith threaded the needle between four defenders and Johnson leapt for and caught the ball and was hit as he fell to the turf. The ball came loose and luckily Johnson fell faster that the spinning ball. As he hit the turf, he stretched out his arms and reeled in the ball loose with his fingertips, just inches above the grass. The play was video-reviewed and upheld.

In the second quarter receiver Rob Housler ran a reverse for the second consecutive week. Last time, he ran for a first down at Florida Field against the Gators. This week’s run resulted in a 68-yard touchdown romp through the FIU defense. It gave the Owls a 21-3 lead and was the first TD of Housler’s career and the longest TD run in FAU history.

Smith and Chris Bonner hooked up for the fourth FAU TD. The drive took 1:19 and involved 6 plays and 80 yards of offense.

The fifth drive was a joke. 1 play, a short pass to Cortez Gent in which he ran 69 yards for yet another TD. WOW. FIU is really, really bad. They are playing like they just don't care. Mario Cristobal really has a mess on his hands here.

They just threw in the towel last year against FAU. They simply gave up after a long season and disappointing season. Not something any coach wants from his team.

I think they will have a fresh start this year and with some experience under Cristobol they should show improvement. I have them down for 3 wins this year. I think their best chances are against MTSU, at ULL, and against ASU on homecoming.

GO OWLS!!!

i agree…watched the game the other night and they started out pretty well, then that stupid fake field goal started the beginning of the end of the end for them…

what really sealed it was when Younger got WAXED on that pass play…that was the nail in the coffin…
