What a bunch of garbage, Grothe ranked higher than Smith?  Anything from Rivals should be banned from now on.

I think over the years we have all come to the conclusion that rivals is a joke.

GO OWLS!

Lefevour of CMU No. 9? Even our modest defense contolled him pretty well! Rivals is wrong as usual.

Re: Rivals.com: Smith 23rd Best QB Across The Board

I like the ranking.

Let him go prove something on the field and not in a poll.  I believe he has the opportunity to end up higher if he gets some help from his players, but after his freshman year, if you would have said he would be a top 25 QB by his senior year, I think everyone would be thrilled with it.

FAU has a Top 25 QB.  That's awesome to me.  Now go do something with it.

+1

After 2007 he was higher, but his 2008 season was simply ok and did not match his performance level of the previous year. Hence the "drop"

More fuel for the fire. Being snubbed for confrence awards, falling in ranking, if this type of stuff doesnt motivate him then nothing will.

Now is HIS time to prove his talent and take FAU up with him.

I hope Coach Brohm can lend him some valuable insites.

I have come here to chew bubble gum and kick @$$ and I'm out of bubble gum.

Re: Rivals.com: Smith 23rd Best QB Across The Board

it depends on how they are ranking this if its just on how they play college  its about right but if they are ranking them on futrue NFL qb's he is higher then some of these guys Rusty is a better pro prospect then Tebow in my opinion but Tebow is the better college QB.

Well because IMO Grothe (as well as Tebow and LeFevour) benefit from the system they are in.  As in they are system QB's and i don't see them having much potential as NFL prospects.  Now, as raw athletes and versatility i think Grothe and Tebow have a lot more upswing but FAU lives and dies with Rusty.  Gent, Bonner, Grant, and Harmon are all very good tools to work with and help Rusty look good but without him (Rusty) FAU is lucky to be a .500 team (unless Van Camp is the next Montana).  Where as UF and to a lesser extent USF have so much depth at many other positions that while it would be a big blow to losing their starting QB (as with any team) they have a roster and talent level to better adjust and perhaps even have another QB on their roster to plug into the system and manage games.

Example:  Now i'm also a Patriots fan.  Brady is one of the best QB's of all time and his 3 SB rings all won with mediocre talent around him on offense i think goes to show that.  Now, as much as i like Matt Cassell i think the talent level he had at his disposal last season really improved his odds.  Especially if you watched a lot of their games last season (EX. screen to Faulk, screen to Welker ETC)  Now I'm not saying Brady doesn't use these plays as well because he does, but the accuracy and arm he has is just on another level and allows him to drop back more often then not and make a decision.  So i'm really interested as to see how Cassell does next year in KC assuming that he wins the starting job (which i think he will).  But if you remember KC only gave a 2nd rounder for him and Mike Vrabel which shocked a lot of "experts" like John Clayton.  However, KC most likely realized they were taking a calculated risk and didn't want to give away a king's ransom for QB that is possibly a stud but has yet to win a playoff game and may just be a product of the New England system.

Anyway i'm rambling too much but that's my argument as to why Rusty should be ranked higher.  I think 17-13 would have been more appropriate.

Re: Rivals.com: Smith 23rd Best QB Across The Board

Many people consider Grothe a better QB because he can run. So Rusty may throw for 30 TDs but Grothe may throw for 25 and run for 10 more which is why some USF fans call him Tebow lite. I guess Rivals feels that he's a dual threat same with Lefevour which is why guys like Tebow, Lefevour and Grothe are ranked above Rusty

My two favorite teams are FAU, and who ever is beating FIU!
