Back to Campus: CBSSports.com Launches 2008 College Fantasy Football

Leading fantasy sports service creates all-new college football product

For first time, individual player names will be used

FT. LAUDERDALE, FL, July 29, 2008 - CBSSports.com today launched an all-new version of their College Fantasy Football game, continuing to be the only major fantasy sports service provider with a collegiate fantasy football game.

While CBSSports.com first launched College Fantasy Football in 2005, the 2008 version of the game marks an important point in the evolution of the product as for the first time individual player names will be used. Prior to this season, CBSSports.com College Fantasy Football used school names and positions, such as "FLORIDA QB" and "MICHIGAN RB" in lieu of actual player names.

"As the leader in the fantasy sports business, we're constantly looking for ways to distinguish our service from the competition. Offering a product surrounding the immensely popular sport of college football is yet another example of this goal," said Jason Kint, Senior Vice President and General Manager, CBSSports.com. "We believe combining fantasy sports and college football will give fans and alumni yet another reason to get involved in the sport, increasing the popularity of college football much in the same way fantasy sports has affected professional football."

CBSSports.com College Fantasy Football is once again offered completely free of charge and will allow users to recruit a team of college football players from any of the 120 Division I programs or customize their player pool to include any conference they choose (two minimum). Users can create a private group and invite their friends or simply join a public group and play against college football fanatics from around the globe, competing head-to-head for the season championship. (All groups consist of ten teams)

CBSSports.com College Fantasy Football will be run using the same software and product design as the rest of the award-winning fantasy sports products on CBSSports.com, including those in professional football, baseball, basketball, hockey, golf and auto racing. The CBSSports.com Commissioner product has won every Fantasy Sports Trade Association (FSTA) award for best Fantasy Commissioner Product since the association was founded in 1997.

As is the case with the entire suite of CBSSports.com Fantasy products, College Fantasy Football will feature exclusive player updates, columns, breaking news and blogs from the entire team of award-winning CBSSports.com fantasy sports writers as well as from CBSSports.com national columnists and senior writers such as Dennis Dodd (Senior Writer, College Football).

Additionally, CBSSports.com College Fantasy Football will feature a video player on the homepage. Hosted by Jason Horowitz and featuring guests such as CBSSports.com Fantasy writers, the exclusive CBSSports.com Fantasy sports programming segments will give viewers timely, in-depth news, strategy and advice.

2008 College Fantasy Football should not be used for the purpose of sports wagering activities.

Re: Rusty Smith guaranteed to be drafted!

And now this:

"It is a done deal," Schnellenberger said. "Some are getting drafted that aren't as good as he is right now. I don't understand why anybody questions me."

Neither do i, HS…neither do i…

;D

FAU QB Smith is a first-round talent

Re: Rusty Smith guaranteed to be drafted!

I don't think he'll go in the first round but I definitely think he has a high shot of being drafted if these next two seasons go as well (or better) than his first season.

Re: Rusty Smith guaranteed to be drafted!

First round is a stretch. I think Rusty is a 2nd to 3rd guy. You never know though. Joe Flacco went in the 1st this year out of 1-AA Delaware and last I checked he will likely be starting for Baltimore.

Other small school QBs drafted in the first round include:

Culpepper, Pennington, Leftwich, and McNair to name a few. Unfortunately most of those guys (with the exception of McNair) only had a few solid seasons in the NFL.

GO OWLS!!!

List of small school QB's that were/are sucessful in the NFL is endless….Terry Bradshaw Louisiana Tech; Ben Rothlesberger Miami (OH); Tony Romo-Eastern Illinois; even Brett Favre-Southern Miss.  Rusty has two more seasons like his last season with 35 TD's and low picks in a pro-style offense…he will go first round, unless his throwing motion scares teams away.  The dude is 6'5 and coached by Shnellenberger.

Teambeer is the most knowledgeable FAU sports fan I know, way smarter than me.

How could I forget Big Ben???

True, lots of successful small school guys. Just not too many taken in the 1st round.
