Schnellenberger, Smith Receive PBCSC Honors

The Palm Beach County Sports Commission held it's 33rd annual Palm Beach County Sports Hall of Fame awards ceremony last night - inducting 10 members for the 2009 class.  Four member of the 2009 class hold coaching exprience, which was lead by FAU Head Football Coach Howard Schnellenberger.  Others included Jack Rhine, former Gators baseball coach from Riviera Beach High; Jupiter High football coach Charlie Persson; and C.W. Pell, who helped build the football dynasty at Pahokee.

The commission also presented a list of awards on the evening.  One of which went to Florida Atlantic quarterback Rusty Smith for Amatuer Athlete of the Year following a 3,224 yards and 24 touchdown performance this past year.  It was Smith's second receipt of the award.

So he won it last year as well? I don't ever recall hearing anything about it last year. Hopefully he can add a few more awards to his trophy case before he closes out his career.

GO OWLS!!!
