Spring Scrimmage 04-10-10: Post Game Comments

Well, the first Spring Scrimmage is officially in the books. There were some solid play on both sides of the ball, and some not so solid plays on both sides of the ball - that resulted in a fairly even score of 26-24 in favor of the defense when the final "whistle" blew.

Coach Schnellenberger seemed to be on both sides of the fence, and gave the overall performance a "High C":

The first half of action saw a considerable amount of running plays and the defense leading at the break 12-6. Coach Van was pretty pleased with the overall performance of his unit:

And, he should be with 18 stops, 10 batted passes, an INT, and a fumble recovery.

Polo made the interception to end the first half, and that was the difference maker for the period.

The offense didn't get it going until the second frame for all intents and purposes, and three of session's four scores were with the first team on the field.

Ironically, the third team offense made the longest play of the day with Damian Fortner (6-83, TD) taking it to the house from 59 yards out.

Lester Jean lead all receivers with 80 yards on three catches; so that post practice talk with Coach Jackson yesterday must have paid off.

The defensive line was able to keep the pressure on, and that was a big plus observed for a section of the team that has been under scrutiny for quite a while. Granted it was against an inexperienced line, but progress is good.

The team will hit the field again on Monday at 3:30 p.m.
