Ticket Sales

Last year, the hype of the stadium's openning and Schnelly's final coaching season generated only 4,633 season tickets sold. This is why so many of us were happy to hear that Coach Pelini's bonuses were tied to season ticket sales.

"Pelini can earn as much as $200,000 more based on bonuses tied to season ticket sales. If season tickets reach 12,000, he would get a $100,000 bonus, with an added $50,000 if they hit 18,000 and another $50,000 if they reach 24,000 in FAU’s 30,000-seat stadium."

But 2012 ticket sales have been lagging despite Pelini being on the job now for seven months now and tickets being on sale since February 23.

I don't fault Pelini, as I understand he has had his hands full with recruiting coaches and players, and prepping for the season, but this brings up the question, will Pelini ever have time to help with ticket sales? So far he hasn't had time, and truthfully, if you're already make over $450K doing a job you love, why would you basically take a second job with commision-style paid sales position that isn't your forte?

FAU really should have tied Pelini's bonuses to wins and bowl games, to keep him motivated and focused on winning games.

Where do you all stand with the structure of Pelini's bonuses?

I agree with both points of view, but also a great marketing campaign also has a huge impact. Both things that FAU has been lacking in.

Re: Ticket Sales

Wins will bring in the people, a joke of a 1-11 for the 1st season in the stadium puts us in a hole though!

Re: Ticket Sales

If you want ticket sales …WIN.  Local media coverage is now zero. If we win they will have no choice but to have stories about us. FIU is in the news in Miami and our local news paper ( PBP ) would rather run a story on UF's equipment manager. Almost comical. We need to bring attention to ourselves, self promote the hell out of ourselves, but most importantly….WIN.  No one wants to support a program that looks like they don't care and 1-11 almost gives that impression.

You neglect to note that the 4,633 in season tickets sold last year almost tripled the total from the prior year.

Pelini's bonus structure isn't to have him go out in the community and beg for new season ticketholders…it's to build a winner.  If you win they will come.  So it is the ultimate indicator of wins, you win people will come out, play meaningful games people will come out.  I will venture to say if the team was even average last year (.500) we would have had over 20k for Howard's last game.

Something to think about…the Miami Dolphins announced that they had their largest "new" season ticket sales ever (not renewals, but brand new ticketholders from the prior year).  They signed up 6,000 "new" season ticketholders.

My opinion, any net gain in season tickets from prior year would be a huge win.  Anywhere between 300 to 500 new net season ticketholders would be amazing.  I don't expect that to be the case.  I expect them to have a net loss in ticketholders.  What will change that?  Showing amazing improvement during the year and people who goto games bring people who don't normally go to the games.  I had a friend who went to UF who I brought the opener.  I was expecting him to have a good time, but that would be the only game of the year…he had such a great time in the stadium he went to 4 of the 5 home games.

Ding Ding Ding… That is exactly what it is tied to!

If you know anything about South Florida, you win people will show up, you don't win…they have plenty of other ways to spend their time and money.
