trip to New Orleans

Aight i know this is a little early, but better prepaired then not.

Does anyone think that Fau will do a package to N.O. if we win this weekend?  Do schools do this?  I mean a flight alone out there with a hotel room is upper $500's for one person……

I dont want to get ahead of ourselves, but i also dont want to buy a flight on saturday night (if we win) and then FAU come through with a cheaper option…..

how long of a walk is it to N.O.?

Re: trip to New Orleans

yes, they definitely will…although the "package" may not be as good as you can get on your own…the best bet might be be to garner a group of 25 and charter a plane…i have heard that the nearest airport would be a 1 hour drive that could hold that capapcity of flight…

then work the "hotel" as a group as well - QUICKLY with no mention of the game at all to the hotel of choice…because as soon as they hear of it, they will immediately raise the rates knowing they have a competitive advantage with passionate visitors, assuming that they are willing to pay whatever to get into the area…

saturday night about this time would be the organizational GO time…

You shouldn't have to worry about only being able to find a high-priced hotel in New Orleans. There are tons of options for all types of budgets.

Phil:
What you may want to do is buy the plane ticket and worry about hotel later. If you buy the plane ticket, make sure you ask the attendant if you can change the destination city. Why? Because if you by the plane ticket to 'Nawlins and then FAU comes with a cheaper option - save your planet ticket for Aug. 28 2008 and fly out to Austin for opening Owls v. Longhorns game.

I'm ASSUMING that if FAU wins on Saturday, at the Sunday Bowl Watch Party there will be some kind of announcement.

If there is some type of charter I have 3 maybe 4 who are in if we win.  I do not want to drive but I checked flights and it's somewhere between $350 to $425 depending on departure airport and stop overs.  That times 4 starts running into some money.  The hotels in New Orleans aren't bad right now, (bring a gun if you leave the beaten path) the Sheraton on Canal is only $99 per night, I think someone said that the Sheraton is also the Sunbelt Team Hotel so that's where I'm staying.  I have stayed there a few times, good location, good hotel, some parking issues.

GO OWLS!

Re: trip to New Orleans

Last year and two years before that, Troy's package was no great deal.

New Orleans has good deals on hotels. Check neworleansbowl.org: Home for details, but the SunBelt team hotel is the Sheraton on Canal Street - a 5-minute walk to Bourbon Street, a 10-minute walk to the waterfront and 15- to 20-minute walk to the Superdome.

Rooms start at $89 or $99 per night.

Next door, the J.W. Marriott (stayed there last year) is smaller but very nice (very comfy pillow-top beds). We paid $89 per ngiht last year and I think the rooms are $10 more expensive this year.

Across the street is the Marriott - which was $79 last year. Also, nice.

These places are huge. The Sheraton hosted the team luncheon where both bands entertained. The lobbies turned into big pep rallies.

We never drove our car (except for our impromptu disaster tour, which was unreal) and had an awesome time. There's a Harrah's casino 5 minutes away by foot, the aquarium, mall on the river, you name it.

Hotel parking can be $15 to $30 per DAY! So, pack into a rental or grab a SuperShuttle. You probably won't drive once there, anyway.

We never felt threatened or scared, and we strayed off the main routes a few times.

For those on a budget, there are all kinds of fast food places around the hotels, in and around Canal and Bourbon. You have not seen craziness until you experience the Krystal on Bourbon at 3:30 a.m.! They should make a reality show out of this place.

Southwest should have some good and cheap flights to New Orleans from PBI and FLL.

I think the sudden interest in fans travelling to games, from the UF game to the Troy game and now to the NO game, might be a bit new to Athletics. I have a feeling like they have nothing planned. SGA is much more likely to try to throw something together, if anybody.

This should not be any ones worry, the hotels have not even come close to bouncing back yet from katrina, i had a group of friends that went out a few weeks back and stayed in a 5 star hotel for $100 a night and the ritz carlton was only $160 a night, that right there will tell you something….

flights look to be a bit expensive around $350 or so last i checked.. good news tickets are 40$ and not hard to get…

so at $300 per head and 25 tickets that would be $7500 to charter a small plane…dont see how that couldn't be doable…

and you leave and return when you want…….

Boca Raton Exec handles that capapcity of plane as well…
