Unfortunately, I dont think they will have a team in 2016. I would imagine they will not be back in FBS for years considering they currently don't have players. Really sucks to what they did to that program long term.

Conference USA has already said they will take them back in 2016. I imagine as soon as they re-sign Bill Clark as their coach he can start recruiting including a whole bunch of jucos for 2016. They will lose a lot of game in 2016.

Conference USA Statement on UAB's Decision to Bring Back Football

"We are very pleased with the decision to bring back the football program at UAB. As a conference we are committed to football, and we welcome the good news that the UAB football program has been given another chance. From all indications, this program will now be able to count on a very strong foundation of community support upon which it will begin the re-building that will position it well for success into the future. Although the lengthy evaluation process was challenging, this final outcome makes it worth the wait. We look forward to working with our colleagues in Birmingham as they plan this exciting new chapter in UAB football."

Clark is still their Coach, still under contract and on payroll per his contract before this debacle!

It really surprises me all the details come out now as to: 1) having to leave conference USA and 2) possibly losing $2 million annually. 3) The possiblity of raising the funds needed.

That should have come up in the initial study to drop the sport. This was a big set back and a waste of time and money.  Sounds like there may have been other reasons to drop football and it was a quick and uninformed decision.

In a very roundabout way, it can also be seen as a fantastic move to galvanize support for the UAB program and cast light on the UAB-Alabama struggle.

The downside was losing players and maybe coaches (I haven't followed THAT closely) at a time when they were finally headed in the right direction.

But hey, $15M in public support that they didn't have before is fantastic.

The pledges are currently at $17.5 million over 5 years for operational expenses, $2.5 toward a projected $13 million needed for a new field house and practice fields, and $7.5 toward a stadium. A real leader would have asked the community before shuttering the program. I would be thrilled to be back in 2016, even if it means getting pummeled in Boca Raton.

Thanks of the support.

Yes exactly what I was saying. As a retired business man, I know taking one step forward and two steps back is wasteful. Even though, glad you are back in the mix. Looking forward to some rivalry.

Statement Regarding Conference USA Board and UAB

June 4, 2015

The Conference USA Board of Directors met by teleconference earlier today to discuss UAB’s membership in advance of its meeting on June 8. In light of UAB’s decision to reinstate football, the Board took no action to affect UAB’s membership status in the Conference. At its fall meeting, the Board expects UAB to submit for review a comprehensive plan addressing the key elements of UAB’s football program going forward. No additional action from the Board is expected until that time.
