on ESPN.com they are listing FAU- UL Lafayette as an ESPN2 televised game. This will be great to get a rare appearance on one of the two ESPN networks everyone around the country has!

Also its listed on the UL-Lafayette website,

Nice, a home game that we should win will be televised!! Plus if the people know that the game will be on ESPN2, I think we'll be able to have an almost full stadium.

Don't make the mistake Troy did in hosting mid-week games. It makes for empty stands and an embarrassing look to the school. Worse is when it's on ESPNU, which almost no one gets.

That happened too FAU last year and it hurt more than it helped. Hopefully, as you said Ingbrdr, the ad boys will get ready for some heavey promoting.

The nice thing about the Wednesday game is that every red-blooded college football fan in the country will be tuned in becuase it is the only game. I know that I would watch St. Mary's school for the Blind vs. Melbourn Chiropractic Institute just to get to see some football mid-week.

My point is, people who love football will tune in just to get their fix. This can only help to bring attention to FAU. GO OWLS!!!

Never thought about it like that but it does make sense.

I have heard this argument for years and I don't buy it.

People have lots more to do on the weekdays, ranging from watching their favorite TV show to their kids' league games and practices, work events, family time, etc. Weekday TV games are up against a massive number of much higher rated shows.

Sports channels get very low ratings for these games. ESPNU has hardly any subscribers to begin with. How can a school get great exposure when so few people see the game - in person or on TV?

The school misses out on a traditional day of tailgating and football mania. In some towns, a weekday game robs local hotels, beverage spots, bars and restaurants (even the campus bookstore, which sells lots of paraphernalia) of major revenue they might need to survive a lean winter and spring.

A football weekend turns into a quick trip to the game and home, dead tired - instead of two days of catching up with old friends, parties, visiting the old fraternity house and more. In some towns (Troy, for one), many people who live more than a few hours away can't make the game because they can't get there in time from work, or get there late and the stadium looks embarrassingly empty for the first quarter. And they probably can't get a day off from work the following day. Loyal fans wind up not attending the game.

I could go on, but weeknight college football is a disaster.

Ditto Markey, the weekends are definitely easier for most football fans. It is hard to make a game unless it is in your own back yard but if you have to travel, it can be a bear.

Guys remember this is on ESPN2, not ESPNU as some of you say in your posts. Every cable system has ESPN2 so this isnt like the ESPNU games of last year. Your right there are major drawbacks for attendance which is why I think they should just play one game a year on a weeknight and not a whole bunch like the MAC teams do. As long as they dont overdo it and end up on ESPN or ESPN2 an occasional weeknight game is a good thing for the cash and exposure.
