Wed, Nov. 11th Football Practice Notes & Quotes...

Florida Atlantic University’s football team returned to the field Wednesday, but switched things up a bit by removing the shoulder pads, primarily to prevent injuries to a depleted squad.

FAU’s practice was originally moved up one hour, without classes scheduled on Veteran’s Day. Rain delayed the start and moved the team to the track complex. The day began with kick-off and coverage. The team also worked on individual skills and finished the installation of the run and passing game plan. Practice ended with team drills and special team work.

FAU will return to the practice field 3:30 p.m. Thursday on the Tom Oxley Athletic Fields.

Coach Schnellenberger

On injuries

"I have taken off the shoulder pads for practice today. Tomorrow we will practice a normal Thursday which is already without shoulder pads and more of situations.

Those that are well, like I said yesterday, practiced well. And, I think they are ascending back up the ladder of enthusiasm and confidence and will be where they will be on game day.

Obviously, we look forward to getting on the field and getting one more time, one more time for the next four."

What do you think you will see?

"They will start their starting quarterback for the last three years, the guy that was tied with Rusty (Smith) for preseason player of the year."

On Jeff Van Camp and Difference after first start

"I think his start and performance was very helpful to him and the offensive team, the team and to me. We all had confidence that this is what would happen. He played a winning game."

Curtis Cross, DB, R-So, Belle Glades, FL

On the possibility of starting in the place of Tarvoris Hill, on Saturday.

"The coaches are trying things, trying new athletes and new positions to get it all to come together and really work well as a defense."

Jamari Grant, TE, Jacksonville, FL

Offense under Jeff Van Camp

"Our offense hasn’t missed a step with Rusty gone. Jeff knows the plays and we have a lot of confidence in him. He did a great job."

Arkansas State

"There defense is basic. They have a great front four, front seven which makes the jobs of the secondary easy. That is the way it should be. This will be my fourth time to play against them and they will be very physical up front. We will have to play hard every down."
