About halfway down they list the "Top 10 Non-Conference Schedules" which include FIU, Troy, FAU, and ASU all placing in the top 5.

I actually like our chances against Oklahoma State (we played close two years ago), USF (that could go either way), and Kentucky (a great QB surrounded by numerous question marks). I would say that FAU has a chance against Minnesota, but the past has proven that Minnesota can run, run, run, and then run some more. Granted the strenght of FAU's defense is the run, but Minnesota is a whole different animal when it comes to running the ball.
My final thought is that one win in the non-conf. schedule is a success and a huge step toward where FAU wants to be in the not so distant future.
GO OWLS!!!

The team now is more like the 2003 team with respect to their class. Most right now are RS juniors, Juniors and below.

Just remember the season we had in 2004 with a bunch of D1AA players and walk-ons that beat Hawaii (at home), MTSU and UNT.

great point…and better overall talent across the board as well…

Yes but what you think the talent level is and what it is actually is different. The 2004 D1AA team beating Hawaii and other D1A teams. I don't think anyone expected them to be that good. Howard said his 1983 national championship team had no highly recruited players or "All Americans". Howard finds great players that are overlooked and turns them into a good football team.
The team this year might be better than we think they are.

OFFENSE
QB: Andre Woodson ? May be the best QB in the SEC this season
RB: Rafael Little ? Should be 1st team all SEC.
WR: Keenan Burton ? Should be 1st team all SEC.
WR: Dicky Lyons ? Major contributor and a leading receiver in catches last season.
WR: Steve Johnson
TE: Jacob Tamme ? Was 1st team all SEC last season? will be just as good this season.
OL: Christian Johnson
OL: Garry Williams
FAU will have its work cut out for them in this game.

Our first teamers are solid, but there always seems to be a drop-off after that, which is starting to change considerably at most positions - yet the OL & DL will remain the achilles heal that can make a difference in those games.
What is also different going into this year will be more expereince with some of the younger guys and more leadership from keys guys. So, yes we can give some of our OCC opponents a scare during the games (I remember Clemson how one or two plays could have turned thing around for the Owls and made the game much more competitive and actually put us in the drivers seat, instead the game truned just that quickly into a nightmare for us)
- hopefully the added experience will help us make the plays we couldn't seem to make last year. The same could be said about S.Carolina game as well.
If we can make plays happen instead of compounding our mistakes and make the other team pay for their mistakes , much like the 03-04 teams where abe to do, then you have a different ball game - this team should be able to do that. All of that can be attributed to lack of confidence as a team, which should not be an issue going into this season.
