Columbus OL Federico Maranges Commits to FAU Football's Class of 2019

Federico Maranges
OL
6-4, 285
Christopher Columbus
Miami, FL

Visited Boca Raton on January 18th before announcing his pledge to the Owls 3 days later.

Federico, who has only played football for just over a season after moving from Puerto Rico in the aftermath of hurricane Maria, did not receive a ton of attention on the recruiting trail until this year when he made Miami Dade South's all-star team.

Being FAU's only second offensive line commit this cycle, expect to still take 2-3 more this cycle with targets Micheal Cartwright and Adarius Tolliver still in play.

Interesting prospect, guy is built VERY WELL and looks like he could easily put on 30 pounds of college muscle. Like the angle here.

Where Eyes Lie in Scouting Offensive Linemen - On The Sixth Day

Basically what it comes down to is what makes you a good/great offensive lineman in high school does not necessarily make you a good/great offensive lineman in the NCAA or NFL.

I have heard some colleges prefer to recruit lighter, more atheltic offensive lineman so they can beef them up and have them retain their quick twitches and athleticism.

Perhaps the most interesting example of turning a great athlete into an even better offensive lineman requires a look no further than our conference foe Western Kentucky and George Fant: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/George_Fant_(American_football)#Football_career.

Further, Reggie Bain was a low rated 2 star prospect and on the lighter side - he turned into possibly the best o-lineman in program history thus far! Reginald Bain, Florida Atlantic, Offensive Guard

IMHO, offensive line recruiting is a crapshoot that relies more on the strength and o line coaches than it does the already made talent that walks through the door.

Keep an eye on this guy. Big. Not fat. Young. Smart. Coachable. This guy is a diamond in the rough.. Coach Love will mold him into something special. Can't wait to watch him develop.
