FAU Recruiting Notebook 11/30 – Coaches will watch Bland and Hankerson

St. Thomas Aquinas - Boyd Anderson game features FAU targets

Friday night will mark a vital opportunity for Florida Atlantic on the recruiting trail.

With the regular season wrapping up, a new playing field is opening.

College football programs across the country have been patrolling local high schools the past few days, and FAU will be doing the same Friday night when St. Thomas Aquinas hosts Boyd Anderson in a Class 7A Regional Final.

Recruiting coordinator Jeff Sims and tight end coach Jarred Allen are expected to be on hand to watch Austin Bland and Greg Hankerson square off.

“I’ve never felt this pumped up that my future coaches are coming to watch me. Finally they can actually see what I've got in person,” Bland said.

Bland – who gave a verbal pledge to FAU over the summer – is one of the top prospects in this year’s recruiting class and has been a force on St. Thomas Aquinas's offensive line all season long.

His team will be hosting Boyd Anderson, who upset Dwyer last week to advance to the next round of the state playoffs.

Boyd Anderson is led by Hankerson, who is the team’s starting quarterback.

It’s a known fact that FAU is on the prowl for quarterbacks, and Hankerson appears to be a target.

The 6-foot 180-pound passer has already thrown for over 2,300 yards this season and has been offered by the Owls.

While it will be a convenient situation for the coaches to check out Hankerson, it will also mark the first time they will see Bland compete in person.

The lineman has picked up additional offers since his verbal pledge back in August, but he remains solid to FAU.

“I just can't wait to be an Owl,” he said.

Louisiana-Lafayette Game Visitors List

The school is full of talented prospects and LaJuan Huntappears to be the next in line. The running back has already been offered by FAU, and getting him on campus now is essential.

What ever happened to that big time recruit who came to visit earlier in the season and asked you not to tell anyone his name? Ever get back in touch with him or know if FAU is still on his radar, or did he commit somewhere else already?

My two favorite teams are FAU, and who ever is beating FIU!

I'll just put it at this. Texas A&M was on the sidelines for his game last night.
