Men's Practice Report: 11-01-08...

Here are a few thoughts after taking in a practice today - finally!

Jarvis:

What can one say…guy is FIRST CLASS…within five minutes it is more than clear that you are weatching one of the great teachers of the game…his delivery…his command of the players attention…his tone…just all around…there was a definite positive vibe exuding from himself and the players…unlike "the other guy" who would rant, etc, MJ gets his point across with a respect for his pupil, and has thier full ear and eye contact…it is obvious they in turn have respect for him…he was teaching throughout the practice…very fundamentally oriented…

Sammy:

ALOT quicker…he looks lean, and definitely in better shape than last season…got a couple nice rebounds and made a jumper or two…he's "around the ball" more consistently as well…

Nwoji:

I think he took 10 three pointers in set plays and drilled 8 of them…may see some time at the 2 this year??

X:

Played exclusivley on the wing…nothing stood out from last year in comparision…but he looks like he is leaner as well, and may have picked up a 1/2 to a full inch in height…

Hughley:

Didnt see him…

Los:

Well, he was Los…crashing boards…"dipsy do for two" here and there…finess jumpers along the baseline…

Richardson:

On the wing alot and matched up against Gagel - whom he was quicker than by a good step most of the time…didn't see alot of shot attempts…

Gagel:

Has a clean stroke…shot appears somewhat slow in release, but i dont see where anyone got off saying he was "slow" in general…he has good handles and can pass the ball well…played mostly two today, but also ran the one on second team…

Royster:

Didnt appear to put any weight on…still struggling with finishing down low on offense; but has to contend with Justin Davis now…….grabbed a few nice boards…

Davis:

Solid presence down low…defensive minded player…not many shot attempts witnessed, so jury is out on that still…

Walkon PG:

Didn't get his name but he looked pretty solid…much better than anything we had last year at walk on positions…i would not be one bit surprised to see him play in games at all given what he did today…solid ball handling…fairly quick…ran the plays well…

Probable starting lineup based on what was observed in set plays:

Los - PF
Graham - SF
Nwoji - PG *
Richardson - 2G
Royster - C

* Can't elaborate, but this is probably a patch assignment

More to come…….

or i could just read this post to get the updated news with the team!  lol

uhh whats the word on Snoop?  Hows he looking?

Have you seen the potential starting 5 on the crt?  do they look faster than last year?  we need to get some constant speed to contend with a lot of the taller teams in the Belt

PG was doing well…i dotn know how he wil fit in with the obvious system changes MJ is making…he is definitely going a simpler route…it appears he is giving them more freedom than "the other guy" did and is allowing them to utilize thier judgement for who takes the shot…he was on PG for one shot he forced…hard to say, but i think he will be a factor…

On speed:

Haven't seen the whole team yet :)

He was only in the mix for about 5 minutes after i got there…then they went to set plays…

Good to see he got the nod this year!

Yea. That's Chris Coleman. He's a 5th year senior. And played tuba.

Wait, is that the guy we used to see in the marching band pictures? If it is, he tried out for Rex's team two years ago and didn't make it. Rex went with Enrique Rodriguez instead. Apparently Jarvis decided not to keep him around along with the other walk-ons. Does anyone know what happened to him?

Re: Men's Practice Report: 11-01-08...

Like Florida_Owl mentioned, you can just tell the difference in this team already.

It does start from the top & Jarvis is SOLID, everything as advertised - FAU could very well be the next Georgetown in the making.

I didn't even recognize Sammy at first, the guy looks slim (no longer a blob/slug on the court), the kid slimmed down and it shows, the kid can actually move.

Fundamentals & accountability was the theme and it looks like the players are responding well to Jarvis style of coaching.  He is a teacher and it shows in his approach and how he handles the players.

This will be a much different team then we have been accustom to seeing on the floor.
