Taming the Lions
Gantt, White lead the way as Owls register season highs against Florida Memorial
For a good portion of the contest, the Owls got their fair share of competition from a feisty NAIA Florida Memorial bunch tonight; at times too much.
But in the end, a 21-0 run by Florida Atlantic (9-6) in the second half would set the stage for a 94-76 rout before an announced crowd of 533 at FAU Arena.
Greg Gantt was impressive on both ends of the court, posting game highs in points (28) and rebounds (8 ), and accounting for all of the Owls’ five long balls.
“He’s been working on those in practice, and they are carrying over into the game”, said Coach Mike Jarvis.
After falling behind 20-10 in the first period, the Lions would keep things close at the break, trailing 52-47 as the teams headed to the locker rooms.
Florida Memorial (6-7) took advantage of a flat start to the second period by the Owls to lead 68-64 at the 11:41 mark.
