Why no big home games?

Why doesn't the basketball program try to bring in some big-name schools for home games? (Or at least "bigger"-name schools.)  I figure if the football team can get some 2-and-1 series with schools from major conferences, why not the basketball team?  I just went through the last seven years of schedules and found exactly one (1) team from a Big-6 (i.e., BCS) conference, and that was Miami in 2002, so hardly a road trip for them.  Not even any "name" schools from a mid-major conference.

Is there a reason basketball doesn't (or can't) try to bring some bigger teams to town with a 2-and-1 (or even a 3-and-1)?

Very good question...maybe if we played Notre Dame at home we could sell the place out.

Re: Why no big home games?

Sanibel hit it.  Scheduling is ALL ABOUT money.  Usually, when you a team schedules their Non-Conference opponents they tend to go for the "home and home" agreement. Meaning, one year they play on the road and the next the two teams meet on the opposite court.

In this situation, you have a Mid Major (FAU) trying to bring in Non-Conference teams that we can beat and help the overall record. We have to pay these teams to come here, and since the budget is not BIG to begin with we can't really "afford" to bring in BIG name schools. PLUS, we want WINS. It is VITAL that you win Non-Conference games because that looks HUGE come tournament time when teams are hoping for automatic bids. Also, we can't afford to pay a team like Syracuse, they would break the budget, and then we would probably get a spanking in return.  SO, not only do we lose money but we also lose a game..and well, lets face it… we don't want to lose any Non-Conference games.

But we do it in football by giving them a 2-and-1 – two games at their place, one at ours.  What's the difference in basketball?

Re: Why no big home games?

well the guaranteed money in football is 6 digits (300,000-400,000) in basketball its more like 60,000-80,000
