Last Time on The Hardwood:

Florida Atlantic defeated the Knights 81-61 with Kore White (17), Alex Tucker (13), Greg Gantt (13), and Brett Royster (11) all in double figures. However, the Owls were paltry from long range at 2-of-12 (16.7%).

Lynn at a Glance:

If finishing 7-20 overall and 5-11 in league action for 2010-11 was a disappointment, things may have just gotten a bit more muddled as the Fighting Knights will have to replace over 70% of their offense from last year's squad. Four of the top five leading scorers are gone and a host of others, which does present a formidable challenge in rebuilding. Josh Garcia is Lynn's leading returner at 11.2 ppg.

If there's any saving grace to the plentiful departures, it will come in the form of 6-8 SR forward Michael Vidal who took a redshirt last season. Vidal is familiar with FAU, having hauled in 11 boards last time on the floor at FAU Arena back on 11-10-09. He was also named Sunshine State Conference Defensive Player of the Year for 2009-10 and led the league in rebounding during both his SO and JR campaigns.

Recently, Lynn was recently picked to finish 5th in the preseason 2011-12 Sunshine State Conference poll amongst the nine squads.

Anyone looking for a familiar face on the Knight bench in former Owl Chris Watson will be disappointed as Watson has transferred yet again - this time to NAIA Pikeville. In a reuniting of FAU players of sorts, Watson joins former Florida Atlantic big man DeMonte Simpson and seldom used guard Darren Stewart.

FAU at a Glance:

Tuesday night marks Owl Fans' first opportunity to see this year's squad in action, which will feature three new faces in a versatile 6-8 F Jelani Floyd, sharpshooter 6-4 G Omari Greer, and workhorse 6-6 F Kelvin Penn.

After a successful 2010-11 slate as regular season Sun Belt Champions, the team is positioned to make some noise again and is receiving high marks from notable preseason men's basketball specialty media sources.

Returning guards Ray Taylor and Greg Gantt were both tabbed as preseason Sun Belt All Conference selections by league Coaches and should each take their game to new levels this year. Gantt (916), Taylor (787), and Shavar Richardson (796) are each closing in on 1,000 career points heading into the season.

Point guard Alex Tucker is eying the all time assist record with 416 already under his belt and needs only 90 more to pass current leader Ernest Crumbley (505).

With the departure of Sun Belt defensive player of the year Brett Royster, a lot will be asked of Kore White; who showed flashes if his potential at times last season, but will need to continue to elevate his presence both defensively and offensively.

The Owls will use Tuesday as a final tune up before heading west to participate in a tough three game weekend stint at The World Vision Classic to be hosted by the University of Washington in Seattle.

Accordingly, one should expect classic Mike Jarvis coaching assignments, while tinkering with specific "rules" of engagement and working on future strategy at the same time.

I wonder how many people will be there. I feel like we've always had a good turnout for the exhibition. Hopefully we'll see a higher student turn out with the addition of IVA. People will probably come out so they can support a winner, lol.
