The 49ers had four players in double-figures led by Torin Dorn’s 16 points but the 49ers lost on the road at Middle Tennessee, 72-69, last Saturday.
Keyshawn Woods scored 11 points including knock down three threes. Willie Clayton and Mike Thorne each scored 10 points apiece. Cameron Blakley knocked down three threes for nine points. Pierria Henry tallied a career-high 12 assists.
Thorne Jr. was named Conference USA Player of the Week on November 24th for his performance in helping the 49ers reach the Championship game of the Charleston Classic. Thorne scored 23 points and grabbed 16 rebounds in an opening round win over Penn State.
Head Coach Alan Major has taken an indefinite medical leave of absence that began January 6th. The team entered the announcement at 6-7, but has gone 2-4 since that time.
FAU at a Glance
Offense - 64.4 PPG, 42.6% FG, 35.6% 3PT
Defense - 63.2 PGA, 42.8% FGA, 24.9% 3PTA
Rebounding - 32.1 PG Team, 35.1 PG Opponents
Notables
The Owls are coming off their first C-USA win of the year. If it seems like a long time ago, that's because it was. Twelve full days will have passed before they step out for the opening tip against the 49ers.
Rest has had its benefits as well, as both Justin Raffington and point guard D'Andre Johnson have been at nearly full speed for the last few days. Both are expected to play on Thursday night.
However, the team will now play five games in just nine days first embarking on a three game stint away from Boca - their longest on the season. Taking any one of them would match last year's total of three road wins.
Jackson Trapp's 49.2% overall shooting effort from the floor nets him the 2nd best standing on Conference -USA.

The Owls trailed 1-0 early. But Justin Raffington hit a hook shot and the Owls led 2-1. Then Charlotte hit a 2-pointer after an offensive rebound (second for the 49ers). Raffington came back with another 2 and Charlotte answered with 2 to lead 5-4. FAU turned it over and Charlotte has the ball.
