Dr. Saunders will continue the previous administration's move to attract more traditional, full time residential students to what is mostly a commuter school . She said the football stadium that's been on the drawing board for several years will be integral to that plan. "It is one of a piece of that campus experience; of cultivating the student athlete, of giving opportunities for our community to come back on campus, of building school spirit and identity, of alumni giving," she said. "I think it's just a marvelous opportunity to create a sense of place on campus."

Still, FAU is dismantling HBOI piece by piece - now they're selling off the signature research vessel - so really, what was the point of acquiring a research facility only to deprive of it everything they needed to do, you know, research? Saunders said these research areas were chosen because of our existing access to opportunities… I don't see the opportunities in climate change.
I'd rather see us offer degrees in green architecture, carbon emissions accounting, marine medicinal chemistry, biomimetics, conservation biology, etc
I also think we'd increase our retention and graduate research by offering more 5 years BS/MS programs, then expand the Ph.D. programs. People aren't going to transfer if they know they can stay and get both degrees in five years. And once they're on track to finish a Master's, you say to them, "Another couple of years and you could pick up your Ph.D. here as well, one fell swoop."
(Of course you're not supposed to get your Ph.D. and your undergrad from the same institution but ehh)
